Summary of the role:
The Training Specialist SME will be responsible for providing hands on and subject matter training within the Metrolinx Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations. This individual will report to the Manager- People Development and Training and partner with the business to provide training support across the project. The specialist will work collaboratively with the site leadership and management team to ensure all areas of training are supported and business priorities are interpreted into very detailed approaches.
ResponsibilitiesCore Accountabilities:
- Act as primary lead for every aspect of training while maintaining strong rapport with maintenance personnel
- Essentially support a culture where safety, customer service and equal opportunity is at the forefront
- Guide and support the leadership team on all aspects of training
- Educate clients and/or employees to ensure it is a safe environment while communicating the best practices in terms of operations, inspections and troubleshooting customers’ product
- Design effective training programs, courses and e-learnings including effective testing programs (competency validation)
- Utilize expertise to deliver clear instructions, guidance, and support to employees during on-the-job training, ensuring effective learning and development.
- Develop tests that will evaluate the progression and learning comprehension of the trainees
- Develop and identify programs that need refresher training to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations pertaining to maintenance
- Improve organizational efficiencies pertaining to maintenance and troubleshooting
- Liaise with project managers to determine training needs and schedule training sessions
- Develop and conduct evaluations based on feedback on the training
- Maintain accuracy of training records and ensure training related policies are in accordance with the necessary guidelines
- Support the development as well as implementing company policies and regulations focusing on promoting a safe and healthy environment
- Ensure that all Training related policies are followed in accordance with the established guidelines
- Advise the Manager- People Development and Training of any developing issues or potential issues that could arise in a timely manner
- Produce timely and quality periodic reports that are required for the Senior Manager-Human Resources and Sr. Maintenance Manager
- Ability to create, track and present overall Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure success
Qualifications:
- Railway industry experience is a requirement
- University degree or College Diploma focusing on Human Resources Management/Training or Adult Education or Instructional Training (or related professional certification)
- 3 to 5 years in a Training position that requested the development & delivery of training material & procedures, preferably in Rail Transit industries (or related)
- Ability to act as a subject matter expert
- Experience in dealing and being accountable for results and overall performance
- Excellent presentation & communication skills and impeccable ethics
- Strong problem solving, project management and planning/organizing skills
- Strong knowledge of the MS Office, including an above-average abilities of PowerPoint
Nice to have:
- Previous experience in heavy industries and/or rail/passenger rail maintenance
- Experience working in a Unionized environment and dealing with multiple trades
- Rail Equipment Operator (REO) experience
Skills Required
- Railway industry experience
- University degree or college diploma in Human Resources Management, Training, Adult Education, Instructional Training, or a related field; equivalent professional certification may qualify
- Three to five years of experience in a training position involving development and delivery of training materials and procedures

Established in 2022, it is responsible for maintaining the Metrolinx rail fleet used by GO Transit and UP Express. Its service commitment includes mobilization and transition planning, with safety and customer experience as priorities, and is expected to employ up to 500 Ontarians.
