Job Purpose
As an in-house traffic ticket attorney, you will provide legal representation and support to Priority Waste and its employees in traffic-related offenses such as equipment violations and other traffic laws. You will oversee citation tracking, driver safety compliance, and legal risk mitigation to support the company’s operational and regulatory needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Representing Priority Waste and its employed drivers in traffic-related legal matters, including appearing in court to contest citations negotiate reductions
• Communicate and negotiate with prosecutors, city attorneys, and other legal representatives to seek dismissal or reduction of moving violations to non-moving or zero-point infractions
• Audit driver safety records, track violations, and advise management on risk mitigation strategies
• Maintain and manage a database of ongoing citations, court appearances, deadlines, fine payments, and resolution outcomes
• Draft, review, and file legal documents with state courts and other governmental agencies
• Collaborate internally with operations and safety teams regarding driver citations, compliance concerns, and potential impacts on company
• Perform other legal duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from accredited law school
• Active and good standing license to practice law in the State of Michigan
• Strong knowledge and familiarity with legal documents
• Ability to problem-solve, prioritize, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
