Lochmueller group is seeking an experienced and energetic Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic and growing Traffic Engineering & Planning team. As a Traffic Project Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping safer, more efficient roadways that directly enhance the daily lives of communities, driving sustainable and innovative solutions that reduce congestion and improve mobility for all.

Our Traffic Engineering & Planning team is involved in a variety of projects, including traffic safety and traffic calming studies, transportation modeling and simulation, signal timing optimization, traffic signal and Intelligent Transportation System design, big data, pedestrian/bicycle planning, and long-range transportation planning.

Responsibilities of this role will include:
- Serving as a project engineer and/or project manager in the planning and execution of traffic engineering projects.
- Assisting in the preparation of project proposals, budgets, and schedules.
- Conducting traffic engineering analysis and design.
- Preparing and reviewing project documentation, reports, and specifications.
- Applying engineering techniques, methods, and design criteria to support project execution.
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project goals are met.
- Collaborating with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- May assign work to junior engineers or other staff.
- Depending on experience, may be involved in the mentorship and development of junior level staff.
Qualifications for this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a similar engineering field
- 5+ years of relevant traffic engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation
- Experience with Synchro 10 and traffic signal operations/phasing
- Experience with innovative intersection and interchange configurations
- Experience with the predictive methods of the Highway Safety Manual
- Experience with traffic forecasting methods
- Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
Additional qualifications that are helpful:
- Master’s degree in civil engineering or a similar engineering field
- Registered as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
- 10+ years of relevant traffic engineering experience
- Experience in traffic signal and pavement marking design
- Experience preparing simple to complex traffic studies
- Experience with traffic simulation modeling software packages such as PTV’s VISSIM
- Experience with travel demand modeling software packages such as Caliper’s TransCAD
- Experience with urban, multimodal transportation planning and traffic calming
- Experience leading teams in a project client environment
