We are seeking an analytically minded candidate with a passion for the energy industry to join our high performing team and support the market operation and optimisation of Vena Energy Australia’s renewable and battery portfolio in the National Electricity Market (NEM).
In this role, you will be directly involved in bidding generation assets into the NEM, analysing market outcomes, and assessing the operational and financial performance of our solar and battery assets.
This is an excellent opportunity for an electricity industry professional, currently working as a Market Analyst or Trade Analyst, who is keen to deepen their exposure to battery storage and spot market operations as part of Australia’s energy transition.
The role includes shift‑based work aligned with peak NEM operating hours, including some non‑business days, reflecting the nature of real‑time market operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Operations
Contribute to the development of bidding strategies for solar and battery assets
Execute bidding strategies in the NEM
Support dispatch oversight, optimisation and ancillary services participation for BESS and solar assets
Market & Asset Analysis
Analyse NEM spot market outcomes and competitor behaviour
Review operational and financial performance of solar and battery assets
Provide insights and recommendations to inform future spot market strategies
Market Intelligence & Modelling
Analyse forward electricity and renewable certificate markets
Research industry, regulatory and market developments impacting the NEM
Develop and maintain analytical tools, models and datasets to support spot trading and decision‑making
Collaboration
Work closely with Operations & Maintenance and Finance teams to support optimal commercial and operational outcomes
Prerequisites:
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Science or a related discipline
Experience
2–3 years’ experience in the electricity industry
Demonstrated experience in data analysis or market analytics
Technical Skills
Working knowledge of coding and analytical tools such as Python, SQL and/or R
Strong quantitative and problem‑solving capability
Personal Attributes
Curious and proactive in understanding market dynamics
Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, operationally driven environment
