The Role

We are seeking to hire an exceptional individual to join our compliance team based out of London. The role sits within Market Controls & Reporting and combines day-to-day operation of the trade surveillance programme with the oversight and design of the same programme. This role involves safeguarding the firm against reputational and financial risks by conducting comprehensive surveillance across various markets and financial products. The ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated, organized, and attentive to detail. You should be capable of managing a diverse workload and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced, ever-evolving corporate environment.


What you’ll do 

  • Operate the firm’s trade surveillance programme end to end: triage and disposition alerts across asset classes, escalate potential market abuse, and maintain a clear and defensible record of the rationale for each outcome.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on compliance issues related to trade surveillance, focusing on market manipulation and insider trading.
  • Improve the programme as well as run it: review scenario coverage, calibrate thresholds and parameters, reduce false positives, and identify and close coverage gaps.
  • Act as the compliance interface to the trading and surveillance systems. Understand how surveillance data is sourced and how alerts are generated, and specify system changes with sufficient precision.
  • Assist the Global Markets Centre of Excellence and Compliance more generally, including testing of surveillance and control changes, implementing AI-assisted workflows to enhance Compliance processes, and applying structured problem-solving to diagnose root causes and resolve issues as they arise. Monitor position disclosure thresholds, position alerts and position limits; support accurate and timely filings and escalate potential breaches.
  • Manage stakeholders including Global Markets Compliance, Compliance Tech, Trading and Investment, Operations, Legal to integrate compliance requirements related to trading into business processes.
  • Assist in preparing responses to regulatory agencies and exchanges regarding trading activity and other raised issues, and respond to issuer disclosure requests.
  • Operate and review post-trade controls, handling exceptions and improving control design over time.
  • Review surveillance and control exceptions with regional teams, business personnel, and middle office.
  • Prepare MI reporting and ensure accurate & timely reporting to all stakeholders.
  • Identify, facilitate, and implement process improvements, including the automation of manual monitoring and reporting steps across large, multi-system datasets.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices across market abuse, market transparency and position reporting.
  • Draft, review, and implement compliance policies.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or related field
  • 3+ years of trade surveillance experience covering market abuse typologies across at multiple asset classes, preferably at a multi-manager platform, hedge fund or quantitative asset manager
  • Strong knowledge of global financial regulations and compliance requirements
  • Understanding of various financial products including Equities, Equity Derivatives and Fixed Income
  • Demonstrable ownership of work beyond alert triage: for example a threshold calibration exercise, a coverage review, or a surveillance change you specified and saw delivered
  • Proficiency with an established trade surveillance platform, and the ability to explain how surveillance data reaches an alert and how alerts are configured.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and ability to manage large datasets.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, particularly regarding the preparation of written materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environments.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to cover global markets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues and propose practical, workable fixes independently.

  • Query or scripting capability (for example SQL or Python) applied to monitoring or reporting
  • Familiarity with AI tools and their application in a business setting, and comfort using AI to operate at greater scale and precision
  • Professional certifications such as CAMS, CFE, or ACAMS.

  • Experience in a global financial institution or regulatory body.
