Job Description

The Document Examiner is responsible for the examination and payment processing of all import, export and standby letter of credit drawings received in addition to second review of documents. Ensure that all drawings are in full compliance with L/C terms and conditions and follow the rules and regulations set forth by the Uniform Customs and Practices.

 

Job Description

  • Second check the assigned Documentary Examiners.
  • Provide training, guidance, and development for the new examiners.
  • Ensure that the assigned Document Examiners are following procedures.
  • Distribute work to the examiners, when instructed to do so by the Payment manager.
  • Maintain technical skills and keep abreast of industry developments.
  • Work with the section manager and carry out assignments, as instructed.
  • Act as an authorized signatory, when applicable.
  • Examine import and export documents presented against letters of credit
  • Process payments against complying documents.
  • Create bankers’ acceptances under letter of credit.
  • Obtain internal and/or customer approval and insructions, as required.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records on all transactions processd.
  • Generate outgoing telecommunications regarding document refusals and payment notices.
  • Meet the Department’s productivity standards and personal KPI.
  • Ensuring that all work performed in compliance with the Trade Finance Policy and Procedures and all Bank policies and Regulatory requirements.
  • Investigating and resolving any Account Officer or customer issues.
  • Responsible for the releasing of payments and correspondence for examiners other than themselves.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong technical background in letters of credit
  • Minimum of five years experience with documentary examinations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits, as well as the ICC Publication 600 and all subsequent revisions.
  • Excellent leadership, managerial, and communication skills.
  • Ability to use automated systems.
  • Experience in reconciling letter of credit liabilities, outstanding bankers’ acceptances, and steamship guarantees.
  • Proficient in MS Office

 

Compensation

The expected annual base salary for this position is between $65,000 - $80,000 at the start of employment. A salary offer is determined on an individualized basis, taking into consideration factors such as an individual’s skills, experience, and book of business. In addition to base salary, our total rewards package also includes eligibility for incentive compensation, medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision plans, life and disability insurance, employee wellness program, retirement and savings plans with employer contributions, generous holiday and paid time off schedules, parental leave, and tuition reimbursement.
