The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating customs, import, and export compliance activities for inbound and outbound goods, technical data, software, and technology. This role ensures that shipments are classified, licensed, documented, and cleared accurately and on time in compliance with U.S. and international trade regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements, while supporting uninterrupted logistics and supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee import operations and customs clearance, prepare and maintain required documentation, validate HTS classifications, apply valuation rules, and verify duties and taxes.
- Coordinate with brokers and forwarders; monitor shipments and resolve CBP holds, exams, and documentation issues.
- Support export controls: jurisdiction/classification (USML/CCL, ECCN), licensing (DDTC, BIS), use of exemptions, screening parties against restricted lists, and filing EEI through AES.
- Prepare export documents and ensure compliance with license conditions, deemed export rules, and anti-boycott regulations.
- Maintain audit-ready records; support audits, registrations, voluntary disclosures, compliance programs, and process improvements.
- Monitor regulatory changes and communicate impacts to internal teams.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; 5+ years in customs, logistics, or trade compliance.
- Knowledge of HTS/Schedule B, Incoterms, ITAR/EAR, export classifications, ERP systems, ACE/AES.
- Strong organization, documentation accuracy, and ability to manage multiple shipments and licenses.
- Must meet U.S. export‑controlled information access requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing/aerospace/defense; DDTC/BIS systems; preparing licenses; trade programs (FTA, drawback, AD/CVD, Section 232/301).
- Experience with screening tools, brokers, and global export regulations; professional certifications (CCS, CES, LCB, CCLS).
