The Track Timekeeper is responsible for accurately recording, monitoring, and reporting work hours of employees working on rail, industrial, or construction projects. This role ensures compliance with company policies, labor agreements, and applicable regulations. The Track Timekeeper works closely with supervisors, foremen, and project managers to maintain precise records and provide timely reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Record daily employee work hours, job classifications, and cost codes for crews assigned to track or construction projects.

  • Maintain accurate records of straight time, overtime, double time, and per diem.

  • Verify crew sheets, foreman reports, and timesheets for accuracy before submission.

  • Enter timekeeping data into payroll or project management systems on a daily basis.

  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements (union rules), company policies, and applicable labor laws.

  • Communicate with supervisors, HR, and payroll departments to resolve discrepancies.

  • Track and report absences, vacation, sick time, and other leave categories.

  • Support project management in producing labor cost reports and forecasts.

  • Maintain confidentiality of employee records and payroll data.

  • Provide administrative support for crew scheduling, onboarding, or certification tracking as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in business, accounting, or related field preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience in timekeeping, payroll, or administrative support (railroad, construction, or industrial setting preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of timekeeping systems, payroll processes, and labor reporting.

  • Familiarity with union agreements and prevailing wage requirements is a plus.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software; experience with payroll or ERP systems preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with supervisors, employees, and project managers.

Working Conditions
  • May be assigned to field or office environments depending on project needs.

  • Must be flexible with hours, including nights, weekends, and extended shifts during project deadlines or outages.

  • Exposure to rail/construction field environments when collecting or verifying time records.
