The Revenue & Operations Improvement practice is looking for a consultant with Performance Improvement, Case Management and/or Throughput experience. The successful candidate is able to integrate their prior experience with clinical management, quantitative analysis and teaming with various hospital stakeholders to improve processes, measurement tools, and drive value for the client. This role will partner with clients and our team (finance and clinical) in all phases of Performance Improvement engagements to assist them to succeed.

  • Produce and development high-quality work product/ deliverables that exceed client expectations on a consistent basis
  • Demonstrate expertise in any combination of the following:
    • Length of Stay Management
    • Clinical Operations, within hospital preferred
    • Quality metrics/measures programs
    • Throughput improvement initiatives
    • Physician Practice Consulting Labor Productivity
    • Revenue Cycle
    • Utilization Review
  • Serve as direct conduit to clients; field and respond to requests directly from the client and keep project sponsor apprised of project status
  • Proactive in communicating engagement timelines, deadlines, responsibilities, and client expectations; provides frequent status updates to team leadership and clients
  • Anticipate client needs and contribute to shaping the overall work product and underlying analyses


  • Facilitate the growth and development of junior team members
  • Provide candid and constructive feedback on a timely basis to all levels of project team
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by striving to keep team members engaged and interested in their assignments
  • Actively seek opportunities to collaborate and share knowledge with peers

  • Strive to develop and maintain good relationships with clients
  • Proactively seek to improve tools/processes utilized in client work
  • Actively look for opportunities to expand relationships across all Revenue & Operations Improvement practice areas and strive to facilitate introductions/meeting as appropriate


The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5+ years of hospital operations/performance improvement and consulting experience
  • Experience with EMR implementations – specifically any modules involving care management/bed management
  • Have a deep understanding and demonstrated experience in the areas of Performance Improvement: Revenue Cycle, Service Line Reconfiguration, Length of Stay Management and/or Clinical Operations: Clinical Variation, Physician Management, Care Management, Observation Management
  • Experience and comfort with quantitative analysis. I.e. Quality Metrics/Measures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite of tools: Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Teams
  • An ability to articulate and clearly communicate complex problems and solutions in a simple, logical, and impactful manner
  • Experience working through organizational change and driving value with clients/stakeholders, with a demonstrated track record of continuing responsibilities, creativity and innovation, including evidence of solution design
  • Proven ability to build, manage, and foster a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability of developing strong working relationships with key stakeholders and/or clients at the executive level
  • Experience/knowledge of regulatory compliance issues facing the healthcare industry and an awareness of key methodologies, approaches, and market trends in the industry
  • Strong interpersonal, team-building, organizational, and motivational skills
  • A desire to deliver to a high standard in a suitable timeframe
  • Self-motivating, adaptable, able to prioritize, and able to inspire and motivate others
  • This position requires up to 50% to client sites throughout the United States
  • Applicants for employment must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with Kaufman Hall (i.e., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (OPT), TN visa or any other non-immigrant status)

  • BSN Degree required, MSN, MHA is preferred

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations
  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading

  • Travel Required: Approximately 50%
  • The role is based in Chicago, hybrid
  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of home office and client settings, and routinely uses standard office equipment
  • It may require the maintenance of a home office and proximity to an airport for work related travel
