Job Responsibilities:
Objective:
Responsible for supervising resources and personnel to meet Tooling and production schedules, productivity targets, quality targets, control and organization of Tool room, while coordinating activities to support the control and maintenance of all tools and safety objectives within a MAFACT team environment. The organization in implementation of MAFACT, including lean, standardized work and continuous improvement activities.
Scope
All aspects and functions involved in production of quality parts, tooling management and to complying with the requirements of MPTSH and our customers.
Responsibilities, Duties and Authority: (These duties cover only the more significant responsibilities, they are not meant to be all inclusive. Other duties may be given by the senior management in addition to, or instead of, those listed here.)
- Schedule and coordinate the daily tasks for the Tool-room personnel.
- Create, distribute and track work assignments to Tool-room leaders.
- Maintain adequate inventory of die tooling and tool room supplies.
- Develop, implement and improve a tooling TPM system including preventive and predictive maintenance functions.
- Supports launch activities and new tooling design by following APQP.
- Takes responsibility and accountability to meet milestone targets.
- Oversee die apprenticeship training. (Coach, mentor & train)
- Maintain a clean and safe work area by implementing and maintaining 5S.
- Follows Magna Code of Conduct and Ethics policy.
- Schedule vendors (welders, polishers, EDM, machine repair) to meet targets.
- Responsible for Tool-room safety and safe work practices.
- Follows all State, Federal and Magna safety regulations and policies.
- Report and provide countermeasure for unsafe conditions.
- Ensures that safety/environmental concerns are addressed and closed out.
- Performs Layered Process Audits (LPA's).
- Responsible for MAFACT Requirements and Improvements related to department.
- Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits improvement suggestions, CIP's.
- Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF 2016:16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
- Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) and Lockout Tag Out procedures.
- Analyze and design layout plan for work cell utilization, space requirements, and workflow efficiency.
- Create and maintain Quality System structure and procedures within the tool.
- Enters data into tool tracking software as necessary.
- Responsible for quality control on all outgoing tools.
- Manages monthly tool spend to stay within budget.
- Regularly report status on metrics and projects.
- Works on the direction of Operations Manager on projects, processes and procedures to improve cost, safety, environmental, throughput and workplace organization.
- Assist with the development and implementation of company goals and objectives.
- Evaluate new technologies and process improvements as well as implement as necessary to maximize new equipment and software investments.
- Participates in Accident Incident Investigation Process as required.
- Support and participate in division and department improvement initiatives through Continuous Improvement Suggestion Program, and sharing of knowledge, ideas, and/or best practices with co-workers.
- Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
- Follow Magna Common Values, Employee Charter, Magna Constitution, Mafact guidelines and Customer Specific Requirements
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manage all employees (including Apprentices) in the Tool Room in Tool Room Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of direct reports. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, mentoring and coaching, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience:
Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field or Journeyman Tool & Die maker with 5 years related work experience. 5-7 years previous supervisory/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Metal stamping and weld/assembly experience. Required to be proactive and suggest improvements to existing processes policies and systems. Demonstrates creativity, initiative & the ability to perform structured problem solving. Team oriented work approach. Self-starter who is positive and professional. Ability to work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment. Ability to set priorities and multitask projects. Able to work hours required to comply with deadlines and to support corrective actions when they are needed. Completes assignments with minimal supervision. Consistent ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables while treating team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee's Charter and Common Values, which includes a commitment to fair treatment and a safe and healthful workplace. Experience in structured problem solving techniques like 8D 5 Why or A3 process.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Ability to obtain forklift and overhead crane permits.
Additional Skills:
Language Skills: Requires extensive tact and communication skills (verbal and written) for direct customer communication. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Active listening skills.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate basic math, understanding of decimals and metric, ability to add, subtract and multiply. Ability to convert from Metric to English and vice versa. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Skills: Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to use problem solving when presented with problems or duties that do not have immediate answers or results. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software such as CMS, and other pertinent software. Intermediate level skills with Windows Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) systems. Experience using AutoCAD.
