Position Summary:
The Tooling Design Manger leads a team of machinists, fabricators, and/or other technical specialists to design, build, and optimize (extrusion) manufacturing tools (calibrators, sizers, fixtures, dies, and jigs as well as provide support for plant (downstream equipment). Manage timelines, control department budgets, and coordinate with production to ensure efficient factory operations. Multiple site responsibility.

The West Salem, OH facility continues its legacy by striving to produce high-quality vinyl & composite building products that support customers across North America. West Salem plant manufactures vinyl and composite siding and windows accessories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership/Team: Manage/supervise machinists and other technicians in an environment adhering to industry as well as local safety standards. Provide direction, establish goals, assign tasks, and coordinate with production staff.
  • Budgeting: Control project costs (multiple plant) and manage outside vendors.
  • Tool Design: Lead creation of 2D and 3D designs for custom extrusion tools using various CAD and CAM software (including AutoCad, SolidWorks, & Esprit)
  • Cross-Functional Support: Partner with production, quality, and new product design groups to take on manufacturing challenges and solve problems.
  • Optimization/Lean Manufacturing: Improve tool reliability, safety standards, and manufacturing efficiency through lean manufacturing methods.
  • Equipment/Capabilities:
    • Wire EDM
    • CNC Machining Centers (HAAS)
    • Heat Treat
    • Laser Welding
    • 3D Printing & Scanning
    • Traditional Machining Centers, Lathes, Surface Grinders

 

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related. Experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 5+ years of CAD/CAM, preferably SolidWorks (manufacturing design) experience or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
  • Expert understanding of machining, fabrication, weldments, tolerances, materials, and design processes.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience
