 Position Summary:

The Title Examiner I is responsible for accurately and promptly creating title commitment documents for all real estate transactions. Accuracy, thoroughness, and sound decision making are critical because quality of examining directly influences company liability. Attention to detail and organizational skills enable the position to complete the examination process in a timely manner.

Typical Position Responsibilities

General:

- Ability to work regular and extended hours as needed to support co-workers, and serve clients/customers

- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance

- Maintain in-person attendance to process incoming and outgoing transactions in a timely manner

- Ability to accept and apply feedback 

- Ability to perform duties with minimal errors in work product 

- Demonstrate basic industry knowledge/expertise to assist in training of co-workers and to provide excellent customer service to our clients and customers

Title Examination: 

- Conduct basic searches and examinations of property titles to determine legal status and identify any defects or encumbrances.

Document Review: 

- Review legal documents such as deeds, mortgages, liens, and judgments to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.

Title Reports: 

- Prepare preliminary title reports and summaries, highlighting any issues or discrepancies.

Public Records Research: 

- Conduct research in public records to trace the history of property ownership and verify title information.

Compliance:

Ensure all title examinations comply with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements.

Client Communication: 

- Communicate with clients to provide updates and explanations regarding title findings.

Collaboration: 

- Work closely with senior title examiners and other team members to facilitate smooth real estate transactions.

Continuous Improvement: 

- Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices to enhance the quality of title examinations.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

· General understanding of title insurance, required

· Demonstrated experience with maintaining the security of confidential information, required

· Proficient with Microsoft 365, PDF or related software, required

· Ability to comprehend legal descriptions and draw using a mapping program or by hand, preferred

· Proficient in utilizing title plant search systems, preferred (I.E. TitlePoint, DataTrace)

· Proficient with title industry software such as Resware or SoftPro Select, preferred

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or GED, required

· Associate’s degree or equivalent experience, preferred 

· 2 years related office experience, required

· Minimum of 2 years of title insurance abstracting, examination, or underwriting/risk experience, preferred

· Title, real estate, banking, mortgage industry knowledge, preferred 

· Valid Title Producer’s License, as required by applicable state law, within 6 months of hire

· Driver’s license, required

Physical Requirements: 

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

· Ability to lift/carry office supply boxes, set up office equipment or set up furniture/supplies/materials for events, perform basic building/office maintenance (i.e. shovel snow)

· Ability to drive vehicle to run errands 

Skills Required

  • General understanding of title insurance
  • Experience maintaining the security of confidential information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and PDF or related software
  • Ability to comprehend legal descriptions and draw using mapping software or by hand
  • Proficiency with title plant search systems such as TitlePoint or DataTrace

  • Two years of related office experience
  • At least two years of title insurance abstracting, examination, or underwriting/risk experience
  • Title, real estate, banking, or mortgage industry knowledge
  • Valid Title Producer's License within six months of hire, as required by applicable state law
  • Valid driver's license
