What We Do

Gecko Robotics is helping the world’s most important organizations ensure the availability, reliability, and sustainability of critical infrastructure. Gecko's complete and connected solutions combine wall-climbing robots, industry-leading sensors, and an AI-powered data platform to provide customers with a unique window into the current and future health of their physical assets. This enables real-time decision making to increase the efficiency and safety of operations, promote mission readiness, and protect the environment and civilization from the effects of infrastructure failure.

Role at a Glance

Gecko Robotics is seeking a Test & Reliability Engineer Intern to join Field Infra’s Test & Reliability (T&R) team in Pittsburgh for Summer 2027. This is a full-time, onsite internship, Monday through Friday.

You will contribute to a defined engineering project focused on making our robotic systems more dependable by building software tools, automating tests, and analyzing system data and logs. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will develop practical tools, execute tests, and generate evidence that improves how Gecko validates and learns from its robotic systems.

What you will do

  • Own a scoped engineering project that improves a test, regression, reliability-analysis, or test-data workflow.

  • Help plan, execute, and document software and integrated robotic-system tests under the guidance of experienced engineers.

  • Analyze test results, clearly document findings and open questions, and recommend improvements to test coverage and repeatability.

  • Develop or improve tooling, automation, scripts, or documentation that makes testing more efficient and reliable.

  • Collaborate with Test & Reliability engineers and partner teams to understand how field observations and engineering requirements inform validation.

  • Present your project, results, and recommended next steps at the end of the internship.

Technologies We Use

Depending on the assigned project, you may work with Python, Linux, Git, hardware and software test equipment, data-analysis tools, and robotic-system logs. The specific tools and technologies will depend on the assigned project.

About You

You are a curious, hands-on engineering student who enjoys understanding how complex systems behave in the real world. You are comfortable learning across software and hardware boundaries, approaching problems methodically, and communicating what you observed and what you do not yet know.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, robotics, or a related technical discipline, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.

  • Ability to work onsite in Pittsburgh, Monday through Friday, for the full Summer 2027 internship.

  • Foundational programming experience in Python or another general-purpose programming language.

  • Experience writing, testing, or debugging software through coursework, projects, research, competition teams, or a prior internship.

  • Interest in software testing, reliability, robotics, embedded systems, or complex physical systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to structure technical problems, document work clearly, communicate findings, and learn from feedback.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous hands-on experience with robotics, embedded systems, electronics, mechanical systems, or other complex physical systems through an internship, research position, engineering lab, competition team, or substantial project.

  • Experience using Python to automate test workflows or analyze system data, logs, or failures.

  • Familiarity with Linux, Git, and structured testing or debugging practices.

  • Experience designing experiments, debugging system behavior, or building tools for others.

  • Coursework or projects in software testing, controls, mechatronics, reliability engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
