Designs and executes test methods for fiber optic modules, subsystems, and chassis systems. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret product specifications, test requirements, and technical documentation for fiber optic modules, subsystems, and chassis-level systems.
  • Design, develop, and implement comprehensive test methods and procedures for new and existing products.
  • Perform calibration, functional testing, validation, troubleshooting, and failure analysis of fiber optic modules and systems.
  • Analyze test data to assess product performance, identify trends, investigate deviations, and support corrective actions.
  • Document test procedures, setups, configurations, and results with a high level of accuracy and clarity.
  • Generate thorough test reports to support engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and customer requirements.
  • Interface with optical, electrical, and automated test instruments; develop and maintain reliable instrument-control and data-acquisition setups.
  • Configure, load, verify, and handle chassis-level software in production in accordance with approved work instructions and release procedures.
  • Handle firmware and software securely, including access control, version verification, approved release usage, traceability, and protection of production software and test data.
  • Support production ramp, train manufacturing personnel on test procedures, and help improve test efficiency, repeatability, and yield.

Education & Experience

  • BS or MS in optics, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in optics, photonics, fiber optics, or related optical test applications is desired. Related industrial experience in product or manufacturing test is a plus.

Skills

  • Experience with optical, electrical, and general-purpose test instruments, including instrument interfacing and communication interfaces such as Ethernet, USB, GPIB, serial, or similar protocols.

  • Experience developing or maintaining automated test software and data-acquisition systems. LabVIEW experience is a plus; experience with Python, Visual Basic, or similar languages is also valuable.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and manage assigned tasks and projects effectively.

  • Ability to read, learn, and analyze complex test methods; research solutions; and develop practical, resourceful approaches to technical problems.

  • Ability to leverage knowledge and experience and apply them to solve problems resourcefully.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while maintaining careful attention to detail.

  • Ability to teach and train others within the work group.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.

Working Conditions

  • Good office working conditions. At times, this position may require work in a Class 10,000 cleanroom environment while wearing a smock, mask, and gloves.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to move light equipment and tooling (<25lbs) as needed when setting up manufacturing stations.
