Position Overview:
As the Telecom Permitting Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the preparation, submission, tracking, and approval of telecommunications construction permits across local, state, federal, utility, and railroad jurisdictions. This role supports both underground and aerial telecom deployments and requires an individual who understands permitting workflows, jurisdictional ownership, and how to move applications forward with minimal oversight.
This is a role intended for experienced permitting professionals who know how to assess plans, determine permitting requirements, and act without formal training or step-by-step instruction.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, submit, and track telecommunications construction permits across municipalities, DOTs, utilities, and railroad authorities.
  • Determine jurisdictional ownership and permitting requirements based on construction plans, scope, and location.
  • Manage permitting related to aerial construction and pole attachments, including coordination with utility pole owners and joint-use entities when required.
  • Review and interpret Alden One outputs, height-of-attachment sheets, pole profiles, and make-ready requirements to support permitting and application accuracy.
  • Submit and respond to NJUNS applications and comments as applicable.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Design, and Project Management teams to resolve plan issues impacting permit approvals.
  • Manage permitting for railroad crossings, occupancies, and ROW agreements, including application preparation, agency coordination, and comment resolution.
  • Track permit conditions, approvals, revisions, and expiration dates across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Maintain complete, well-organized permitting documentation and correspondence in company systems.
  • Proactively follow up with agencies and stakeholders to keep permits moving in alignment with construction schedules.

Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of direct telecommunications construction permitting experience.
  • AldenOne/ NJUNs experience.
  • Experience submitting and managing permits involving utility pole owners and joint-use environments.
  • Demonstrated experience permitting within railroad corridors or railroad ROW.
  • Ability to independently determine permitting jurisdiction, scope, and next steps based on construction plans.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple permits.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PDF software, Google Earth and permitting or tracking databases.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable operating independently, asking targeted questions when necessary, and owning their scope from intake through approval.
