Our organization's IT division drives modern, progressive management of IT services, policies, and resources across the enterprise. Our Application Development Support team is responsible for the development, engineering, integration, maintenance, and operations of solutions, applications, and COTS products supporting a large intellectual property administration function covering trademarks, patents, copyright, industrial designs, and integrated circuit topographies.
We require a Level 3 Technology Architect to support the engineering, design, integration, maintenance, and support of desktop COTS products and software across Windows 7 and Windows 10 environments.
- Analyze user and technical requirements to determine features and functionality.
- Design, engineer, integrate, test, deploy, and maintain desktop COTS products to support business requirements.
- Drive best practices, quality, and consistency throughout design and integration phases.
- Follow established application life cycle methodologies, timelines, and project plans.
- Follow established desktop integration and packaging practices and standards.
- Identify and troubleshoot escalated production and non-production desktop issues.
- Present demos to stakeholders as required.
- Develop and maintain technical and system documentation, including architecture documents, Concept of Operations, Detail Design, Build, Installation & Configuration documentation, Support Models, and Operational Procedures.
- Contribute to project team meetings, planning activities, and estimates.
- Collaborate with team leads, managers, project managers, application designers, developers/programmers, integrators, packagers, and testers.
- Complete and submit weekly time sheets by project using the in-house Project Tracking System.
- Maintain and support VBOX/Hyper-V DEV, SAT, and UAT virtual desktop testing environments, as well as the UAT lab desktop environment.
- Provide status updates and reporting to project team management as required.
- Notes, minutes, action items, and artefacts from working sessions, interviews, and stakeholder meetings.
- Preliminary and detailed analysis of functional and technical requirements.
- Estimates, plans, and schedules.
- Scripts (e.g., PowerShell, .Bat).
- Installation and configuration guides.
- Test plans, test scripts, and test results.
- Troubleshooting and defect analysis findings, fixes, and enhancements.
- Architecture documents, Concepts of Operation, Detail Designs, Build, Installation & Configuration documentation, Support Models, and Operational Procedures.
- Technical and functional guidance, and stakeholder demos.
- All deliverables produced and saved according to corporate and divisional standards.
IT equipment will be provided, permanently located in a secure lab in Ottawa. Work is carried out primarily remotely via secure remote access (Citrix and Remote Desktop), with no organizational data leaving the network or being transferred offsite. Onsite work under direct supervision may be required when handling sensitive or classified information or accessing the production environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Technology Architect or similar senior technical role, ideally at a Level 3 proficiency in a large-enterprise environment.
- Strong expertise in desktop COTS product engineering, integration, and support across Windows 7 and Windows 10.
- Solid understanding of desktop packaging, application lifecycle methodologies, and IT operations best practices.
- Scripting experience with PowerShell and/or batch scripting.
- Experience with virtual desktop testing environments (VBOX/Hyper-V) and UAT lab environments.
- Strong technical writing skills for architecture documentation, design documents, and operational procedures.
- Excellent collaboration skills, with experience working across project teams including developers, testers, packagers, and project managers.
- Ability to work within established organizational policies, security requirements, and corporate standards.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain any required security clearance.
