Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Technical Writer with a strong background in data engineering to support the Joint Staff Chief Data Officer in documenting complex data processes, procedures, and technical specifications. The ideal candidate will possess project management skills, familiarity with product development processes, and proficiency in managing technical documents. This role requires exceptional communication skills, the ability to conduct thorough research and analysis, and expertise in editing and proofreading technical content.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to document project lifecycles, data engineering processes, and technical specifications.
- Assist in documenting product development processes and specifications related to data engineering projects.
- Create and maintain technical documentation using productivity software, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Document data workflows, schemas, and data governance practices.
- Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to gather information and ensure technical accuracy in documentation.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in data engineering, database management, or a related field.
- Understanding of project lifecycles and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with product development processes and documentation.
- Proficiency in productivity software for managing technical documents.
- Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative tone in all communications.
- Incorporate audience perspectives and needs into technical communication
- Quickly grasp complex data engineering topics and translate them into accessible documentation
- Apply critical thinking skills to research and analyze technical information effectively
- Skilled in editing and proofreading to ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity in all technical documentation.
- Proven experience as a Technical Writer in a data engineering or related technical environment.
- Proficiency in productivity tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, or similar.
- Experience with data management systems (e.g., SQL databases, data warehouses).
- Familiarity with data integration and ETL processes.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Basic knowledge of programming languages such as Python and JavaScript is beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Pursue knowledge and convey information with assurance and clarity.
- Understand the purpose of communication and the problems it aims to solve for end-users.
