Purpose of the Job

The Technical Writer is responsible for creating, managing, and continuously improving technical documentation for Black Box’s product portfolio, with a strong focus on KVM, AV, and IoT solutions that enable our Control Room & Command Center strategy.  This role works closely with Product Management, R&D, and cross-functional teams to ensure documentation is accurate, user-friendly, and aligned with product lifecycles and customer needs.  The writer will also leverage AI-driven tools and processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and scalability of content development.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including Technical Data Sheets, Application Notes, Product Specification Sheets, Reference Manuals, Training Documentation, How-To Guides, and Technical Web Content for internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and R&D teams to ensure documentation accurately reflects product features, functionality, and updates across the KVM, AV, and IoT product portfolio.
  • Apply AI-based content development and editing tools to improve authoring, translation, content reuse, and version control.
  • Translate complex technical ideas into clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse audiences (administrators, system integrators, developers, non-technical users).
  • Study internal processes, drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to create precise and usable procedures.
  • Analyze existing and potential content to maintain continuity in voice, style, and technical accuracy across all documentation.
  • Manage updates and revisions across channels (web, print, partner portals) and ensure accuracy across all systems.
  • Support the development of control room strategy content, highlighting how Black Box solutions integrate and provide value.
  • Anticipate documentation challenges and propose proactive solutions to ensure high-quality deliverables within project timelines.

  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, or related field (or equivalent work experience). 
  • Technical/Engineering education is preferred. 
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience, preferably in high-tech product manufacturing or related industries.
  • Experience working with documentation management systems, AI-driven authoring tools, MS Office, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with KVM, AV, IoT, or related Control Room technology domains preferred.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience
