Summary: 

We are looking for a highly motivated and versatile individual to join digiLab as a Technical Scrum Master. You will be responsible for guiding Agile process,, supporting the team and helping drive continuous improvement whilst also being in a position to contribute to code as needed. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with proven Scrum experience and strong technical skills in Python or TypeScript/React who enjoys coaching, collaboration, and improving team delivery.

The Role: 

As a Technical Scrum Master at digiLab, you will be responsible for:

Scrum Master Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies: sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and sprint reviews.
  • Coach the team on Agile principles, Scrum practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Remove blockers and protect the team from external disruptions or scope creep.
  • Track and communicate team metrics (velocity, burndown, cycle time).
  • Partner with Product Owners to maintain a prioritised and groomed backlog.
  • Promote transparency, accountability, and self-organisation within the team.

Software Engineering Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the team to design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions.
  • Write robust, scalable code in Python or TypeScript/React, applying best practices, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
  • Contribute to backend and occasionally frontend development, including RESTful APIs and containerised applications (Docker).
  • Work with machine learning libraries (e.g., Numpy, Pandas) where applicable.
  • Participate in CI/CD processes and ensure code quality through automated testing.
  • Support incident investigations and provide technical guidance to the team.

Duties may evolve, and you may be asked to take on other reasonable responsibilities within your competence to support our growth.

Required Skills: 

  • Excellent understanding of Agile methodologies and Scrum framework.
  • Demonstrable experience as a Scrum Master in a complex and/or fast moving environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in Python or TypeScript/React with professional development experience.
  • Experience in collaborative software development using Git/GitHub.
  • Degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to work hands-on in development while supporting team processes.

In addition, some ‘nice to haves’ are: 

  • Scrum certification (CSM, PSM I, or equivalent).
  • Experience with machine learning or statistical libraries.
  • Familiarity with AWS, containerisation, or front-end frameworks (React, HTML/CSS).
  • Experience with distributed teams or scaled Agile environments.

Location: 

This role is based on-site at digiLab’s Exeter office, on the Quay.

As an ambitious, rapidly-growing start-up, we’re looking for proactive, adaptable people who thrive in a fast-paced environment. Our standard working hours are 9.00–5.30pm, Monday to Thursday, though some flexibility outside these hours may be required to meet business needs.
