Position Overview:

As a Technical Project Manager at Groupon, you will play a crucial role in driving complex projects that enhance our dynamic pricing strategies, promotional systems, and search relevance algorithms. Reporting to the Director of Decision Science, you will oversee the execution of these projects by working closely with internal engineering teams and external application providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management:

    • Lead and manage multiple concurrent projects focused on dynamic pricing, promotions, and search relevance, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.

    • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.

    • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including internal engineers and outsourced application providers, to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, gathering and documenting project requirements and ensuring alignment with business goals.

    • Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, and issues to the Director of Decision Science and other key stakeholders.

    • Facilitate effective communication between internal teams and external partners to resolve project-related issues and ensure smooth collaboration.

  • Technical Oversight:

    • Oversee the technical implementation of dynamic pricing models, promotional systems, and search algorithms, ensuring alignment with Groupon’s standards and requirements.

    • Collaborate with engineering teams to address technical challenges and optimize project outcomes.

    • Monitor project performance and quality, making adjustments as needed to ensure deliverables meet predefined standards.

  • Risk and Issue Management:

    • Identify potential risks and issues early in the project lifecycle and develop strategies to mitigate them.

    • Proactively manage project dependencies, timelines, and resources to minimize disruptions and delays.

    • Conduct regular risk assessments and implement corrective actions as necessary.

  • Organizational Excellence:

    • Utilize exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

    • Implement and uphold best practices for project management, contributing to the development of internal processes and methodologies.

    • Conduct post-project reviews to evaluate success, capture lessons learned, and recommend improvements for future projects.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree or PMP certification is a plus.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing complex technical projects, with a strong focus on dynamic pricing, promotions, and search relevance.

    • Experience in an ecommerce environment is highly desirable.

    • Proven ability to manage projects with both internal engineering teams and outsourced application providers.

  • Skills:

    • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize effectively.

    • Strong technical understanding of dynamic pricing algorithms, promotional systems, and search relevance technologies.

    • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
