From Detection to Remediation — Protecting the Orbital Highway for Tomorrow’s Space Economy
The Role
The Technical Program Manager will enhance InfoSec processes, build automated solutions, and lead NIST RMF and compliance efforts while mentoring junior staff.
Summary Generated by Built In

Turion Space is building the autonomous infrastructure to operate and defend the in-space economy. From our DROID satellites that remove debris and inspect assets, to Starfire OS that enables autonomous space operations, to advanced propulsion and sensing technologies, we are solving some of the hardest problems in space. Our mission is to ensure that space remains usable, safe, and secure for generations to come.

As we continue to scale, we need the processes and automated tools that will define success for our growing enterprise network. We're looking for a results driven technical manager that can own multiple workflows, coordinate between multiple cybersecurity disciplines, and drive progress to achieving the backbone of implementation goals across our entire company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scale Infosec Processes: Take our current NIST RMF-based authorization packages, continuous monitoring, and control implementation from ad-hoc to enterprise-grade. You will own the full lifecycle—discovery, design, execution, and sustainment—for programs that support multiple information systems across a variety of customers.

  • Build Automated Solutions: Expect to own tools that integrate with our engineering pipelines (GitLab, Jira, Confluence, custom SIEM, vulnerability scanners, and cloud-native environments).

  • Program Leadership with High Ownership: Act as the single accountable owner for multi-quarter security programs. Define OKRs, build and manage project plans, run daily stand-ups, drive executive reporting, and relentlessly remove blockers. You will be the “glue” between InfoSec, Engineering, Product, Legal, and external A&A assessors.

  • RMF & NIST Expertise in Action: Lead coordination of NIST SP 800-53 RMF packages (SARs, POA&Ms, continuous monitoring plans) tailored to space systems under CNSSI 1253 and DoD 8510 series.

  • Risk & Compliance Acceleration: Identify automation opportunities that reduce assessment timelines from months to weeks while maintaining or improving audit readiness for CMMC, FedRAMP Moderate, and future IL5/IL6 environments.

  • Mentorship & Process Innovation: Coach junior TPMs and security analysts; evangelize a “security-as-code” culture across a rapidly growing engineering organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Have 8+ years of Technical Program Management experience, with at least 4 years directly supporting or embedded in an Information Security organization.

  • Possess deep, hands-on familiarity with the full NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5 controls—ideally in a DoD or national security context. You’ve successfully driven at least one system through A&A (Authority to Operate) or continuous monitoring cycles.

  • Excel in high-ownership environments: you don’t hand off problems—you solve them end-to-end.

  • Thrive in a startup: comfortable with ambiguity, wearing multiple hats, and moving at the speed of a Series B/C company while maintaining the rigor required for space defense contracts.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret or Top-Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with space systems, satellite ground segments, or DoD space programs (e.g., SSC, SDA, NRO).

  • Familiarity with additional frameworks: CMMC 2.0, FedRAMP, CNSSI 1253, NIST SP 800-171/172, or Zero Trust architectures.

  • Technical depth in cloud security (AWS GovCloud, Azure IL5, or OCI) and IaC.

  • Previous role as a TPM in a defense tech, aerospace, or high-compliance startup.

What We Do

Turion Space is building the infrastructure to secure and sustain the future of space. Founded to address the growing need for space domain awareness, in-space servicing, and debris mitigation, Turion designs, builds, and operates spacecraft with real-world operational capability. Our vehicles are built for national security and commercial missions that require speed, autonomy, and resilience. We believe the next chapter of space operations will be defined by who can act, not just observe. That’s why we’re focused on building platforms that move fast, adapt in orbit, and solve problems ranging from satellite servicing to tactical intelligence gathering. We successfully launched our DROID.001 satellite in June 2023 and DROID.002 in March 2025. DROID.003 is scheduled for launch in 2026.

Why Work With Us

Turion Space is where startup grit meets real space missions. We build and fly spacecraft for defense, servicing, and domain awareness. No red tape, no sidelines, just hands-on work that matters.
