Your Role

CBC/Radio-Canada is seeking a dynamic, curious professional with a passion for emerging technologies and broadcast and digital production to join our Production team in Moncton. As Technical Producer, you will identify and plan technical requirements for television productions, allocate assigned resources effectively and maximize the operational performance of the crews, studios, mobile units, and production and post-production facilities under your supervision — all in alignment with corporate and industry standards.

In this role, you will advise and guide production, programming and management teams on technological capabilities and resource optimization. Working within established operational frameworks, you will collaborate closely with media line partners to determine and confirm staffing needs, balance workloads, build shift schedules that leverage individual strengths, and ensure adherence to collective agreements. You will also co-ordinate internal and external production resources, determine gear and equipment requirements, as well as plan and oversee facility setup and operation while ensuring strict compliance with technical quality standards, applicable legislation, and occupational health and safety regulations.

You will proactively flag operational hurdles, workflow bottlenecks and collective agreement compliance issues to management, while managing crew overtime and leave requests. In addition, you will evaluate employee performance, identify training needs and take part in selecting and hiring staff. When necessary, you will recommend and administer disciplinary measures and communicate them transparently to staff.

You will represent the Corporation in dealings with external vendors and service providers. Operating within your delegated financial authority, you will negotiate and approve lease and procurement terms with suppliers for goods and services required for production.

You will manage production budgets and technical procurement; prepare financial estimates, summaries and feasibility studies; and recommend recurring and special capital expenditures as well as strategic development plans for your departments.

This position may require irregular hours, occasional travel and shift work (including evenings, weekends and rotating schedules) to meet production demands and operational emergencies.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • College diploma in television production, media arts and technology, or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ television production experience.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) essential.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly across production, technical and management levels.
  • Comprehensive, practical knowledge of production workflows, technical equipment and production crafts.
  • General understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s cross-platform media operations (radio, television and digital).
  • Strong logistical skills.
  • Proven experience working in both English and French language media environments.
  • Solid knowledge of newsroom operations.
  • Sound editorial judgment and a keen interest in regional, national and international news and current affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise teams and manage technical production operations ranging from moderate to high complexity.
  • Proven ability to balance staffing with production demands, resolve operational challenges and mediate workplace issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, particularly Part II (Occupational Health and Safety).
  • Up-to-date knowledge of emerging production, transmission, broadcast and information technologies.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, problem-solving skills and decisiveness.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment where teamwork is essential.
  • Active listening skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships and facilitate constructive dialogue across diverse teams.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
