Job Description
At SMS group Inc., the Technical Process Engineer – Aluminum is responsible for technical support of operations and sales for Aluminum mills. The Technical Sales / Process Engineer has direct contact with customers, SMS group site team, R&D, engineering, sales, service, and service centers. The Technical Sales / Process Engineer needs to have an entrepreneurial mindset, focusing on technical support, troubleshooting, enhancement and improvements.

What you'll do
- Responsible for market strategy, business planning, and sales in North America for Aluminum mill solutions
- Directly contacts customers with the assistance of SMS group Inc. sales and service personnel if required
- Technical presentation of papers at customers and marketing events to generate opportunities and market awareness
- Creates an open dialog with customers to seek out current issues & develop solutions utilizing SMS Group’s global technical resources
- Obtains RFQ’s and generates opportunities from customers and presents them to SMS group Inc. internal resources to be processed and assists in preparing the final technical and commercial proposal to the customer
- Technical and commercial presentation of proposals to perspective customers
- Participate in scope and project clarification meetings at perspective customers
- Provide regular status updates for all sales opportunities
- Onsite assessment of Aluminum Mill Equipment
- Technical interface with customers to assist in any operational and process questions that arise
- Onsite installation and supervision of Aluminum Mill Equipment
What you'll need
- Engineering degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Aluminum
- Commissioning & field service experience is a plus
- Operational experience is also a plus
- Strong background in Aluminum mill equipment commissioning and operations
- Mill engineering or process experience a plus
- Multi-disciplined aptitude with the ability to interpret mechanical, fluid, and electrical drawings and schematics
- Ability to work with multiple departments and in a diverse team-based environment within the SMS group
- Strong confidence to communicate with customers, onsite subcontractors, and internal teams frequently
- High self-motivation to be proactive with ideas and problem-solving skills to serve the customer with minimum direction
- Commercial and cost estimation understanding
- Sound knowledge of MS Office
- Domestic travel and limited international travel required
