Work on Technology That Protects What Matters

At SiXworks, we build secure digital solutions that support Defence and National Security missions. Our teams work on complex problems where reliability, security, and speed of innovation matter.

We’re looking for a Technical Author who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges and wants their work to have real operational impact.

What You’ll Do

As a Technical Author, you’ll ensure documentation aligns with international standards, supports operational interoperability, and is accessible to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Your work may include:

  • Edit and maintain technical documentation in line with Allied Communications Publications (ACP) and relevant NATO STANAGs.
  • Interpret and apply complex NATO communication standards to produce accurate and compliant documentation.
  • Create user manuals, system documentation, operating procedures, and training materials.
  • Ensure consistency, clarity, and accuracy across all documentation outputs.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, SMEs, Defence stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Support document lifecycle management, including version control and configuration management.
  • Translate technical specifications into user-focused documentation.
  • Review and update legacy documentation to ensure compliance with current NATO and Allied standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide documentation input on system changes.
  • Ensure documentation meets security, classification, and compliance requirements.

What We’re Looking For

We value people who take ownership, think critically, and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team tackling complex challenges. You don’t need to tick every box, but we’re particularly interested in people with skills/experience in:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Author/Technical Writer within Defence communications or a related field.
  • Experience working with military or Defence communication systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and standards documentation.
  • Excellent written communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with document management tools (e.g., SharePoint and Confluence).
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.

Desirable Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Allied Communications Publications (ACP),
  • NATO STANAGs and interoperability standards.
  • Previous experience in a NATO, MOD, or Defence environment.
  • Understanding of secure communications systems and technologies.
  • Knowledge of structured authoring tools (e.g., XML, DITA).
  • Experience with Agile or DevOps environments.
  • Familiarity with classification standards and handling sensitive information.

Just as important are curiosity, strong problem solving ability, and the motivation to continuously improve how technology is designed and delivered.
