We have an exciting opportunity on offer to join Oz-Games Studio, one of our premier game development studios, collaborating with our world-class art, animation and audio teams to produce games for a global audience.
Your role would be an important part of our game development process and would be centered between the graphic art and software teams.
You would be responsible for processing art assets to build and maintain a game scene(s) and scenarios.
You have a broad range of graphic related technical knowledge and are familiar with various professional graphic applications and enough experience in this field to quickly adapt to new software and internal tools as needed.
What is a Technical Artist?
The Technical Artist acts as a link between the artists and programmers working on a game.Their role is to essentially process and maintain art assets for games, rather than creating those assets.Their greatest area of focus is to integrate art assets into a game without compromising the artistic vision or exceeding the technical limits of the platform.
The role of Technical Artist is ‘hands on’ - they must have a keen eye for detail at a “pixel level” and have an enthusiastic attitude working collaboratively within a team environment to achieve outcomes for the delivery of games at the highest quality.
Over the course of their career, it is expected that they would have contributed to the development and success of a range of commercially released products in a technical capacity within an aligned industry i.e., PC/console, mobile/digital games etc.

What You'll Do

  • Study and understand the design of a game, and collaborate with the Art Director to create a plan and structure that supports incoming graphics.

  • With a broad understanding of technical issues related to graphics and animation such as rendering, performance, streaming and memory management, you’d maintain art and animation production workflows and technical art pipeline.

  • Learn and master our custom toolsets and the confines of real-time engine constraints.

  • Work under direction of Art Directors and project stakeholders, to implement world class art, animation and audio content, with a focus on innovation and creativity that is on brief and on time.

  • Write new tools and/or identify new processes and workflows to support the engine and authoring environment.

  • Deliver error-free assets on time to a level of functional and aesthetic quality appropriate to the game requirements.

  • Ability to process and maintain a large volume of art assets.

  • Identify, assess and mitigate technical risk, as well as quickly and accurately resolve unexpected issues that can occur during the development process.

  • Maintain excellent file organization and follow established processes for asset creation and management, output configuration, Intellectual Property and reference material etc.

  • Keep up to date on the latest developments within the gaming industry.

What We're Looking For

  • A strong knowledge of Adobe Photoshop from a technical standpoint.

o familiarity with user interface

o troubleshooting

o image processing (cropping, merging of layers & exporting

o scripting

  • A natural understanding of various file formats and their uses such as;

o .psd, .png, .jpg, .eps, .avi, .mp4 etc

o image resolution

o alpha channels

o vector / bitmap

  • Understands the importance of spotting defects on incoming artwork

  • Art asset management – Applying various meta data to incoming art and submit to software

  • Demonstrated experience with core application software including the Adobe CC Suite, in particular, Photoshop and After Effects.

  • Game development background such as Unity / C# development experience highly regarded.

  • Strong PC/Mac skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Communication Skills

  • Able to communicate effectively both in written and verbal forms.

  • Confident to share new ideas and comfortable influencing key stakeholders.

General

  • Excellent understanding of art asset implementation techniques and pipelines. (Real-Time & Pre-rendered)

  • High level of competency in creating and delivering content using key software to a range of end-platforms i.e., custom propriety platforms, web and mobile devices.

  • Display initiative to drive projects and present new ideas.

  • High attention to detail and good analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a range of functional teams within the organization.

  • Ability to handle competing priorities to meet tight deadlines.

  • Actively seek feedback and review of work; accept and act upon creative/technical direction.

  • Ability to work within a team as well as unsupervised.
