The operation is highly complex, enabling the production of premium-grade nickel and cobalt with a purity of 99.9%.
About the RoleThe Technical Advisor Lime and Limestone Processing plays a pivotal role in optimizing the performance of tMilk of Lime and Limestone Slurry plant. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Operations, this role ensures operational excellence by providing expert guidance on plant performance, safety, quality, production efficiency,and cost control. The position exists to bridge the gap between technical strategy and frontline executionensuring critical systems such as the Rotary Kiln, Ball Mill, Vertical Mill, Crushers, and Conveyance Systemsoperate to best-in-class standards. The advisor also ensures compliance with safety and environmentalregulations, embeds continuous improvement practices, and strengthens organizational capabilities to deliverboth immediate results and long-term resilience.
Key Responsibilities1.Technical support to operation
- Serve as the technical authority across all key systems including: Kiln calcining, wet ball milling, verticalmilling, crushers, screening, and conveyors.
- Lead interface management between Operations, Process Engineering, Maintenance, and Engineering toensure adherence to best practices and equipment standards.
- Coordinate with Laboratory and Operations on sampling protocols, analytical accuracy, and pilot/benchtest validation.
- Collaborate with DCS and Controls Engineering to review and update control logic, participate in HAZOPs,PHAs, and ensure interlocks and safety systems are current.
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting for critical plant disruptions and support operational stabilization andreliability.
2.Process review and optimization
- Oversee the development and continuous improvement of process monitoring tools (e.g. PI Datalink,DataParc, PCS7, LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System), downtime tracking) for lime andslurry operations.
- Standardize and review daily control room plans and alarm management to ensure optimal operationalresponse and system stability.
- Conduct material and energy balances, efficiency calculations, and root cause investigations to identifyimprovement opportunities across milling, crushing, calcining, and ancillary systems.
- Issue formal technical memoranda and troubleshooting guides; lead structured plant audits andperformance reviews.
3.Project support and implementation
- Act as the primary technical custodian for the Management of Change (MOC) process for bulk commodityoperations.
- Identify, prioritize, and support the implementation of plant modifications or projects aimed atperformance improvement or risk mitigation.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams to ensure alignment with operational priorities andequipment integrity standards.
4.Coaching and training
- Mentor Process Engineers & control room supervisor on technical career progression, performanceexpectations, and best engineering practices.
- Deliver structured training programs and coaching for Supervisors, Control Room Operators, and FieldOperators, particularly in areas of milling, slaking, and calcining.
- Strengthen operational competency at all levels through daily engagement, process walkthroughs, andpractical upskilling.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standardized operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials
- over 8–10 years of hands-on experience in continuous process industries, the candidate brings deep operational and technical expertise in bulk solids handling, pyroprocessing, and hydrometallurgical systems, particularly in lime, cement, and mineral processing operations.
- Wet milling operations: closed-loop ball mill systems, density control, cyclone classification, and lime slaking via vertical mills.
- Crushing and screening: operation of impact crushers, double-roll crushers, and vibrating screens.
- Calcination systems: rotary kilns and preheaters, including combustion control and lime quality management.
- Ancillary systems: mechanical conveying, lime storage & aeration, dust collection.
- Execution of mass/energy balances, throughput modeling, and efficiency analysis across comminution circuits.
- Advanced troubleshooting and RCA leadership to restore stability under upset conditions.
- Experience in technical change management processes (HAZOP, PHA, MOC).
- Proficient in Siemens PCS7, PI Datalink, DataParc platforms.
- Skilled in process loop tuning and diagnostics of key instrumentation (flow, pressure, control valves, etc.).
- Developed and delivered SOPs and training modules for operators and engineers using simulators and plant walkdowns.
- Strong written and verbal communication in French, with proficient English for international collaboration.
- Prior roles in lime, cement, and related heavy industrial sectors (pyroprocessing, kiln systems) offer a direct advantage for similar environments.
