The Role

Transport Team Managers at NEXT work closely with the Transport Assistant Site Manager in the fast-paced and time critical transport operation to ensure it runs smoothly, accurately and cost effectively.  

The position available is a 4 on, 4 off day shift working 08:00 - 20:00, averaging 40.25 hours per week.  Alongside a basic salary of £17.64 per hour (c£37,000 per annum), we also offer a 11% London weighting allowance.

The Ockendon Regional Service Centre plays a pivotal role ensuring that stores are stocked and our online customers receive the service they expect from the brand. Working a 4 on, 4 off rotation on the busy night shift.  It’s fast paced, varied and challenging and we’re looking for a talented and dynamic first line transport manager to join our team.

 What you’ll take on

 It’s your job to ensure that the team on shift are well organised, trained and motivated to deliver the operational efficiency targets and that all processes are fully H&S compliant.

 You’ll be responsible for;

  • Managing, training and coaching a team of Drivers (LGV and Van)
  • Managing Driver hours and controlling tachograph infringements
  • Ensuring full adherence to statutory road transport legislation, O-licence requirements and Company policies and procedures
  • Daily and weekly plans to achieve targets and monitor performance
  • Monitor and investigate accidents and incidents, identifying root cause and implementing recommendations

The Transport department at Next is a fast paced 24 hour operation and  so there will often be a need for you to act independently and to think on your feet. You will demonstrate the ability to manage changing priorities, working well under pressure and able to make sound, operational decisions. 

Along with proven people management skills, you must have  experience of working in a busy transport function, demonstrating solid knowledge of road transport legislation, O-licence requirements and Driver hours.

Your expertise is valued and as a Transport Team Manager, you will need to search out solutions, drawing upon your previous transport management experience to lead the team.
