We are seeking a Lead developer and team lead to drive the development and evolution of our Azure Developer Portal. This role is responsible for overseeing the architecture, platform engineering, and development efforts in a complex full-stack environment, which includes a CMS platform (Paperbits), custom React plugins, and a backend consisting of ASP.NET microservices. Additionally, the role will involve integration with the Azure API Management (API-M) gateway via REST APIs and ensuring scalability, security, and performance of the portal. The role will require someone that is a self-starter and capable of managing their own deliverables and outcomes.
The ideal candidate must possess strong experience across the full stack (frontend, backend, and infrastructure) and demonstrate expertise in cloud-native development, microservices architect, API management, and platform engineering. This role will be accountable for leading the technical direction, making architectural decisions, and guiding a team of developers in delivering best-in-class portal solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Architectural Oversight
- Define and drive the architectural vision and strategy for the Azure Developer Portal, ensuring alignment with business goals
- Lead technical design and architecture reviews for new features and services, including the evaluation of tools, frameworks, and architectural trade-offs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product owners, developers, and platform engineers (DevOps and Security). To drive the execution of technical roadmaps
- Guide and mentor the developer team, setting best practices for full-stack development, testing, and deployment
- Supports client Product Owner as technical SME, as well as other project teams that need to leverage the portal in any way
- Soft skills and experience in both managing the client and their needs, as well as management of development teams(near and offshore) and their needs
Frontend Development & Custom Plugin Management
- Architect and oversee the development of custom plugins using React, leveraging advanced concepts such as custom hooks, state management, advanced iframe functionality, and networking
- Ensure front-end code adheres to design principles, maintaining responsiveness, accessibility, and performance benchmarks
- Performs portal custom feature enhancements
Backend Development & Microservices Architecture
- Lead the design and development of the backend using ASP.NET microservices, ensuring robust API integrations, and maintainability
- Oversee the integration with Azure API-M gateway and Okta via REST APIs, managing API lifecycle, security, and compliance
- Interact with various security groups and implements advanced security practices such as OAuth, API key management, and role-based access control (RBAC)
Full Stack Architecture Expertise
- Proven experience in leading full-stack development projects, with a strong background in both front-end (React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML/CSS) and back-end (ASP.NET, C#, REST APIs) technologies
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, including service discovery, load balancing, and microservice communication patterns
- Expertise in cloud-native platforms (especially Azure), with hands-on experience in services like Azure API Management, Service Fabric, and Azure Key Vault
- Experience with API integration, API lifecycle management, and best practices for security and performance optimization in API-based systems
Platform Engineering & DevOps
- Strong understanding of CI/CD practices, including experience with tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Application Insights) for proactive system monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting
- Helps with portal deployments having intimate knowledge of the portal's frontend and backend code bases
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in full-stack development with leadership responsibilities
- Azure Certified Solution Architect or similar certifications preferred
- Experience with Jamstack architectures, headless CMS, and React plugin development
- Strong understanding of API security, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and OpenID Connect

- Full-Stack Development (CRITICAL): Expertise in React, ASP.NET, microservices, cloud-native development on Azure, Azure Service Fabric and Azure Key Vault.
- Azure API Management (CRITICAL): Proficiency in Azure API Management and customization of the Azure APIM Developer Portal product (i.e., custom portal widget creation, RBAC, authentication, and RESTful API integration with underlying systems)
- Platform Engineering (Important): Experience in Azure cloud infrastructure, CI/CD automation, and microservices architecture
- DevOps (Important): Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment
