CAS is currently seeking a Software Engineer.  This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Job Accountabilities
Technical Delivery & Operations
  • Design, develop, and maintain reusable, high-quality code for tooling applications and deployment pipelines.
  • Build deep expertise in team-supported tooling platforms, troubleshoot issues, improve reliability, and drive enhancements.
  • Drive automation to accelerate delivery, reduce manual effort, and simplify operational processes.
  • Provide operational support for internal and external software products, improving availability, reliability, and speed to market.
Strategic Contribution & Process Improvement
  • Evaluate tooling to identify trends and recommend strategies that improve reliability, efficiency, and the overall value of services delivered to internal and external customers.
  • Anticipate potential risks or failure points across supported platforms and proactively develop mitigation strategies before issues impact users or business operations.
  • Contribute to the business case for new tooling, platform changes, or process investments by identifying and articulating cost, efficiency, and risk-reduction impacts (e.g., reduced manual effort, improved uptime, faster delivery cycles).
Collaboration & Leadership
  • Intake and execute on a wide range of requests from cross-functional partners, independently prioritizing work against established team priorities and engaging leadership when shifting priorities or urgent needs arise.
  • Collaborate with teammates, team leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to refine and prioritize backlogs, groom epics and stories, and plan upcoming development work.
  • Provide technical guidance and informal mentorship to junior team members; may delegate routine or well-defined tasks to less experienced staff as appropriate.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and continuously build skills through training and hands-on learning.
  • Other duties as required.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in a Linux-based DevOps or software development environment.
  • Hands-on experience building, supporting, and administering enterprise tooling, including:
  • CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins or similar)
  • Log aggregation and analysis (e.g., Elastic)
  • Monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
  • Configuration management (e.g., Ansible)
  • Scripting/programming (e.g., TypeScript, Bash)
  • Experience operating in public and/or private cloud environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate operational data, prioritize independently, and make sound decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems and develop strategies to prevent or reduce their impact, particularly in incident response and operational support contexts.
  • Ability to work with urgency while remaining calm and focused during incident response; capable of managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Experience with, or willingness to engage in, pair programming and collaborative development practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to actively contribute to technical discussions, articulate trade-offs, and influence decisions in cross-functional settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, continuous improvement, and ongoing professional development.
Preferred
  • Experience with source code management (SCM) and artifact repository platforms, including administration and support of tools such as GitLab, Gerrit, Artifactory, or Nexus.
  • Experience working with tooling in Kubernetes-based environments.
  • Experience contributing to cost, efficiency, or ROI analyses for tooling or process investments.
