Job Description
Overview
The Tax Manager – Indirect Tax will serve as a key partner and right hand to the Tax Associate Director, supporting the oversight of the company’s indirect tax function. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day compliance, driving process improvements, and supporting strategic tax initiatives, while operating as a senior individual contributor.
This position requires a high level of ownership, technical expertise, and the ability to operate independently, while collaborating closely with leadership and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation and reconciliation of all indirect tax schedules, including sales and use tax, personal property tax, and commercial rent tax
- Oversee the timely and accurate filing of indirect tax returns (monthly, quarterly, annually) across multiple jurisdictions using both manual processes and tax automation software
- Act as a primary liaison to the Tax Director, supporting execution of key tax priorities and initiatives
- Support indirect tax audits by preparing documentation, responding to information requests, and coordinating with external auditors and jurisdictions
- Drive process improvements and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency, including optimization of tax technology (e.g., Vertex)
- Play a lead role in tax system implementations, enhancements, and integrations with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle)
- Research and interpret changes in tax legislation; assess impact and provide actionable insights to the Tax Director and broader Finance team
- Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Finance, Legal, and Operations to ensure accurate tax treatment of transactions
- Manage and maintain business licenses, including registrations for new jurisdictions and ongoing compliance
- Investigate and resolve tax notices from various jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate responses
- Support broader finance and tax planning initiatives, including ad hoc analysis and special projects
- Provide informal guidance and support to junior team members as needed (without direct supervisory responsibility)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–8+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax, with strong focus on sales and use tax
- Strong knowledge of multi-state indirect tax regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience with tax automation tools (e.g., Vertex) and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle)
- Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of processes and drive improvements

Estimate Salary Rate: $120 – $130k
