We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Tax Analyst, Trust to join our team. In this role, you will ensure the timely verification, reconciliation, and remittance of withholding taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Canada Agency Revenue (CRA).
Serving as a primary point of contact for internal departments and clients, you will navigate established corporate and government guidelines to maintain flawless tax compliance. Your efforts will culminate in leading critical year-end data extractions, auditing tax forms, and coordinating regulatory annual filings.
This role reports to: Manager, Tax
Job Location: Hybrid (2-3 days per week in office) - based in Toronto, ON.
Key Accountabilities
Tax File Management: Maintain highly accurate client tax files, including tax directions, filer IDs, and authorizations; actively monitor client activity to request and secure updated documentation as required.
Reconciliation & Balancing: Audit and balance client disbursements on the system to ensure year-to-date totals remain accurate, proactively researching imbalances and consulting across departments to finalize precise tax adjustments.
Tax Remittances: Execute accurate and timely tax remittances by submitting Receiver General payments to the CRA and routing IRS tax remittances according to strict regulatory timelines.
Continuous Improvement & Testing: Perform thorough user testing on tax systems and operational processes to identify system inefficiencies, systematically submitting formalized change requests to leadership.
Reporting & Year-End Support: Create, balance, and audit diverse information returns for final filing, while seamlessly coordinating the production of manual tax forms and mandatory annual regulatory mailings.
Cost Basis Tracking: Update and maintain accurate tax lot reporting data within the Cost Basis system, ensuring all assigned compliance timelines are met and escalating high-risk issues appropriately.
Compliance & Communication: Ensure full alignment with corporate policies, standard methodologies, and legislative requirements, while delivering professional, prompt communications regarding tax inquiries and management reports.
Must Have(s)
Education: University degree or post-secondary diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline (equivalent professional experience will be considered).
Experience: 1 to 3 years of progressive professional experience in a corporate tax, accounting, or trust analyst role.
Technical Skills: Intermediate proficiency utilizing Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel).
Execution & Drive: Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet rigid deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
Communication & Collaboration: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills paired with an active listening mindset and diplomatic interpersonal skills.
Core Competencies: Meticulous organizational habits, an exceptional eye for detail, and a proven track record of handling sensitive or confidential information with complete discretion.
Nice to Have(s)
Prior experience working directly within a specialized Cost Basis system or managing complex tax lot reporting.
Familiarity with transactional processing guidelines specific to the CRA (Receiver General) and the IRS.
Salary Range: 50K/year - 52K/year CAD. Please note that the salary range included is a guideline only. The salary offered may vary based on factors, including, but not limited to, the successful candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
