Position Summary 

Reporting to the Head of Tax, the Tax Advisor is responsible for providing support to meet Squadron Energy’s tax requirements and obligations. This role will focus on tax compliance as well as providing tax advice on a range of business initiatives and projects and tax effect accounting 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Preparation of tax returns and supporting workpapers for the Squadron Energy group entities, including the BAS/GST returns, and income tax returns. 

  • Preparation of tax effect accounting calculations and disclosures for statutory reporting purposes. 

  • Providing tax advice on a range of matters to Squadron Energy's legal and commercial teams. 

  • Providing tax support and testing on the implementation of new systems and system changes. 

  • Conducting research on complex tax issues and preparing tax position papers. 

  • Assisting the Head of Tax on proposed transactions, restructuring and other business changes. 

  • Assisting with tax forecasting and budgeting.  

  • Identify and implement improvements to tax related processes and systems. 

  • Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of Squadron Energy's tax policy and governance framework. 

  • Liaise with the Tattarang Tax team, external advisors, auditors and regulatory bodies as required. 

Skills and experience 

  • 4-5 years’ experience in corporate taxation advisory. 

  • Experience working for a Big 4 accounting firm or tax division of a large corporate. 

  • Strong corporate tax compliance and advisory experience, ideally in both direct and indirect taxes. 

  • Strong accounting and numerical skills. 

  • Experience with using a large corporate accounting system (such as SAP) will be highly regarded. 

  • Experience working in the energy and/or renewable sector will be highly regarded. 

  • Experience working with trust structures will be highly regarded. 

Skills 

  • Ability to provide commercially relevant tax advice. 

  • High level of attention to detail. 

  • Technologically competent with a mindset of automation and process improvement. 

  • Stakeholder management and good interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to adopt pragmatic and level-headed approach to ensure quick turnaround when providing advice and support to a fast growing and dynamic organisation. 

  • Excellent time management skills. 

  • Advanced computer software skills, including Excel and accounting packages. 

Qualifications 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Taxation or Law. 

  • Professional qualification such as a CA or CPA and/or Master of Taxation.
