The role also coordinates labor relations for four unionized departments, facilitates labor-management meetings, supports grievances and disciplinary actions, and serves as the primary union representative contact. Additional responsibilities include employment-law updates, cross-functional meetings, special projects, and initiatives to improve morale, retention, and productivity.

Position Summary:

Working closely with the Director of Talent & Culture, the T&C  Manager will provide guidance and support to Management Team and employees,  lead and manage routine HR functions and build relationships, from onboarding to separation, with a goal of consistent application of policies and procedures, and improved employee satisfaction and retention.   The T&C Manager will also coordinate Labor Management grievances and ongoing application of Collective Bargaining Agreement for the four (4) unionized departments.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Director of T&C and hiring managers, coordinates recruitment, staffing and onboarding of staff.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees and Management Team. 
  • Facilitates training and development for team members.
  • Works closely with teams, providing guidance as needed to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Identifies and determines potential causes of personnel problems.
  • Conduct investigations to actively resolve employee relations issues and recommend appropriate outcomes aligned with museum policies and best practice
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute HR programs 
  • Handles complex and/or sensitive matters  
  • Continued review of  federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, sharing best practices, recommending changes, and applying updates as needed.
  • Assists Payroll Coordinator with processing general payroll; 
  • Assists/leads HRIS training with new hires and managers 
  • Lead special team projects as assigned.​​​​​​
  • Run institution and department reports to support leaders and teams as needed
  • Participates in Management Team,  All Staff and other cross functional meetings as needed. 

Labor Relations

  • Coordinates labor relations activity including the facilitation of Labor Management meetings and providing support for disciplinary actions and grievances.
  • Acts as primary contact for union representatives
  • Processes payroll for union member’s dues, tips and commissions

Performs other related duties as required and assigned. 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years related Human Resources or reated experience OR Five (5) plus years progressive experience in the HR field, OR appropriate combination of education and applicable experience.  
    • Non-profit experience a plus
    • Experience working with unions helpful
    • HR Professional Certification (PHR/SHRM-CP or SPHR/SHRM-SCP) a plus

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the institutions'  HRIS and talent management system (currently PayCom). 

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related Human Resources experience, or five or more years of progressive HR experience, or an equivalent combination of education and applicable experience
