Job Title: Systems Integration Engineer – Robotic
Location: Wilmington, MA
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

Analog Devices’ Advanced Physical Technology (APT) group is seeking a Systems Integration Engineer to support the development and integration of next-generation robotic tactile perception systems.

In this role, you will work alongside experienced systems, hardware, firmware, and mechanical engineers to design, integrate, and validate end-to-end mechatronic sensing solutions for real-world robotics applications. The initial focus will be on robotic tactile perception, spanning mechanical integration, PCB schematic design, embedded firmware, and rigorous lab characterization.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, your focus will be on hands-on system development and integration, with ownership commensurate with level and increasing responsibility over time.

  • Design and integrate robotic tactile perception subsystems on end-effectors and test platforms, including force/torque sensors, current sensing, actuators, and embedded controllers
  • Own mechanical system design for sensor integration (CAD, tolerance/fit, mounts, cable management, environmental protection) and coordinate build/assembly with internal or external shops
  • Develop PCB schematics (and support layout reviews) for sensing and embedded control boards, including power, signal conditioning, ADCs, and digital interfaces
  • Develop embedded firmware for data acquisition, timing, calibration, filtering/estimation, and streaming/logging (e.g., SPI/I2C/UART/CAN) to support dataset generation.
  • Create and execute test plans to characterize sensing performance (noise, drift, bandwidth, hysteresis, repeatability) and to validate tactile perception performance
  • Debug and root-cause hardware, firmware, or system issues using lab instrumentation (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM, power supplies), and drive corrective actions through design iterations
  • Build and maintain lab setups, automation scripts, and test fixtures to accelerate integration, data collection, and regression testing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware, software, mechanical, systems) and document designs, test results, and lessons learned to support scaling and ongoing development

Required Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Strong foundation in multiple areas spanning:
    • Robotics, mechatronics, or system integration
    • Embedded systems and firmware development (C/C++)
    • Hands-on experience collecting and analyzing sensors data
  • Demonstrated experience (research, projects, internships, or industry) integrating hardware and firmware into robotics or sensor systems
  • Experience with lab characterization and debug equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM) and data analysis
  • Working knowledge of PCB schematic capture and/or mechanical CAD, with the ability to communicate design intent across disciplines
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn in a hands-on engineering environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Projects or research in robotics manipulation, contact-rich interaction, force control, or tactile perception
  • Controls and estimation fundamentals (PID, filtering, sensor fusion, Kalman/observer concepts)
  • Sensor interfaces and instrumentation: strain gauges, load cells, ADCs, current shunts/Hall sensors, encoders, IMUs
  • Python/MATLAB for analysis and test automation; C/C++ for embedded development (ROS/ROS2 familiarity a plus)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience building end-to-end mechatronic sensing systems for robotics (mechanical + electrical + embedded)
  • Opportunities to publish/patent and collaborate with research and product teams (scope dependent on project needs)
  • A strong foundation for growth in systems integration, sensing, embedded, and robotics engineering roles
