Systems Engineering & Safety Assurance Engineer (SESA Engineer) – Transport & Infrastructure Team
At Aurecon, we are engineering optimists who see the world differently. We ask what’s possible and turn ideas into impact. Here, you’ll bring your expertise to challenges that matter, alongside people who think boldly and are determined to make a difference.
What you’ll do
As a Systems Engineering & Safety Assurance (SESA) Engineer in our Transport & Infrastructure team based in New South Wales, you’ll take on NSW's most critical rail, transport and infrastructure projects helping shape solutions for our clients and communities. You’ll work across disciplines, test ideas and find better ways to solve complex engineering problems.
Here's how you'll help bring ideas to life:
Systems Engineering & Requirements Management
- Lead or support the development of Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP), Requirements Management Plans and Systems Safety Assurance Management Plans.
- Manage contract and technical requirements across the system life cycle – from specification through to decomposition, allocation, traceability and verification – including the requirements verification traceability matrix (RVTM).
- Develop interface registers and interface control documents (ICDs) across disciplines.
Safety Assurance & Risk Management
- Prepare Safety in Design (SiD) briefs and reports, and lead or support SiD and hazard identification workshops across the whole asset life cycle.
- Maintain the project hazard log, integrating RAM and human factors analysis, and demonstrate risks are eliminated or minimised so far as is reasonably practicable (SFAIRP).
- Manage concessions and nonconformances to TfNSW and Australian standards, working with design teams on their technical and safety impacts.
Assurance & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Develop safety assurance reports, compile evidence for review gate submissions, and hand over residual risks to operators and maintainers.
- Work with the client, independent safety assessor (ISA) and independent certifier to close out comments and achieve project acceptance.
What are we looking for?
- 3–8 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Safety Assurance or RAMS, ideally on major rail or transport projects.
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, accredited by Engineers Australia or equivalent, and CPEng status or working towards chartership.
- Working knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, EN 50126, TfNSW systems engineering and system safety standards (TS 01471 and TS 04981), and the duty to manage risks SFAIRP under the Rail Safety National Law and WHS Act.
- Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS Next or similar.
- Australian working rights – some projects may require Australian citizenship or the ability to obtain security clearance.
- INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification, experience with rolling stock or rail systems, or a Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card (or the ability to obtain one) highly advantageous
