Job Description:

Advance how our customers operate while you advance your career. Join GDIT as a Systems Engineer and build an impactful career in enterprise IT, collaborating with people who are driven and resourceful like you.

GDIT has an exciting opportunity for a System Engineer (SE) to support the U.S. Army Europe and Africa in West Fort Hood, TX. The SE will serve as the Chief Architect and Technical Lead for the III Armored Corps Sensor Integration & Data Fusion Lab (SID-FL). The SID-FL Manager is the technical and operational authority responsible for building and running a state-of-the-art innovation hub designed to solve the Army's most pressing intelligence data challenges.

The successful candidate will be a "player-coach"—a hands-on technical expert who also possesses the project management acumen to guide a complex, multi-stakeholder initiative. This individual will work directly with Soldiers, government civilians, and industry partners to rapidly integrate emerging sensors, validate data-centric architectures, and test next-generation AI/ML algorithms.

The ultimate purpose of this role is to accelerate the delivery of combat-ready, data-dominant capabilities to the warfighter, with a specific focus on supporting the U.S. Army Europe-Africa (USAREUR-AF) Eastern Front Deterrence Initiative (EFDI)

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As the SID-FL Manager, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of U.S. Army Europe and Africa. You will play a crucial role in delivering new intel capabilities to the warfighter. The SID-FL Manager’s responsibilities/duties (divided into four primary functions):

  • Technical Management and Systems Integration (50%):  Serve as the lead technical authority for the lab, designing and maintaining the multi-enclave (IL2 to IL6) data architecture. Lead the hands-on technical integration of new sensors (UAS, HAPS, ground, etc.), working with vendors to ensure compliance with the Army's Integrated Sensor Architecture (ISA) standard. Manage the lab's cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google) in coordination with the Enterprise Cloud Management Agency (ECMA). Install, configure, integrate, and operate middleware and data fabric software to enable data flow across disparate systems.  Collaborate with Corps entities to ensure that sensor data is retrievable and presentable in a manner consistent with supporting a commanders visualization on Army command and control systems.  Develop and test Cross-Domain Solutions (CDS) to ensure secure data transfer between security enclaves.  Integrate machine learning and large-language models with sensor data.

  • Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement (25%):  Develop and maintain the overall project plan, budget, and schedule for the SID-FL. Serve as the primary point of contact for all lab activities, briefing senior leaders within III Armored Corps, DAMI-ST, and relevant PEOs on progress, risks, and results. Coordinate and de-conflict activities between a wide range of stakeholders, including military personnel (intelligence formations, targeteers, operations personnel, and the communications community), commercial vendors, and academic partners. Plan and execute "Soldier Touch Point" events, validation exercises, and technology demonstrations. Implement and maintain laboratory protocols and both safety and regulatory standards. Be prepared to travel (up to 10% per year) in support of stakeholder engagement opportunities.

  • Test, Evaluation, and Doctrinal Development (15%) - Design and oversee a rigorous test and evaluation methodology to capture empirical data on sensor and software performance (e.g., latency, accuracy, bandwidth usage). Manage the lab's AI/ML proving ground, working with data scientists to test, train, and validate algorithms on real-world data feeds. Collaborate with analysts and operators to develop and document new Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) for employing integrated sensor and data capabilities.

  • Reporting and Knowledge Management (10%) - Synthesize test results and operational feedback into comprehensive reports and data-driven acquisition recommendations. Present insights in a compelling and accessible manner using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Palantirs Foundry platform. Establish and maintain a knowledge repository for all tested systems, integration guides, and TTPs developed in the lab.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

The SID-FL Manager must have:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline. (Relevant experience may be substituted).

  • Security clearance level: Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility

  • Experience: 8+ years of proven experience in systems integration, data engineering, or a related technical field within the DoW or Intelligence Community.

  • Certifications: A current IAT II Certification is required at time of hire

  • Technical skills:  ; Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, and SQL; Demonstrated hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and services (e.g., S3, EC2, RDS, Synapse); Strong understanding of data standards and formats (e.g., JSON, XML), API integration, and network fundamentals; Proven project management experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders; Experience in technical laboratory management or operations.

  • Desired Qualifications: Master's degree in a relevant technical field; Project Management certification (PMP, DAWIA, ScrumMaster) or Data Science Certification (CAP, SDS); Direct experience with military sensor systems (e.g., EO/IR, SIGINT, RADAR) and their data formats; Experience with spectrum management, electronic warfare platforms, wave forms, and telemetry data; Experience with air defense and target acquisition radar, Link 16, and unmanned systems; Experience with the Integrated Sensor Architecture (ISA), UCS, or other DoW data standards; Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation); Familiarity with Army intelligence platforms (e.g., AIDP, Palantir Foundry, Maven Smart Systems, TITAN) and tactical networks; Experience working in a multi-enclave DoW environment and familiarity with Cross-Domain Solutions (CDS); Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to brief complex technical topics to both senior general officers and junior analysts.
