We’re hiring a Systems Engineer to join our Platform team in Berkeley, CA - supporting real-world vehicle deployments and shaping how Zendar integrates its cutting-edge radar and sensor stack.

To support our growing team, we’re looking for a Systems Engineer to join our Platform team. The Platform team is in charge of integrating all components of our data collection and demo system together for the end user, collaborating with the HW, FW, ML and Infrastructure team. 
Your day-to-day might include:

• Integrating a new sensor into our data pipeline
• Adding a feature to our in-car UI
• Physically building/upgrading demo vehicle systems
• Diagnosing live system issues in the field

As a result, this role is perfect for someone who is comfortable managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously, enjoys interacting frequently with other engineers, and takes pride in keeping a system up and running.
The Platform team currently consists of 5 engineers located in Berkeley, California, and we have an open role for a Systems Engineer in Lindau, Germany, as well. Zendar has four vehicles for data collection and customer demos in Berkeley for you to support so you will be busy working with our local team on their needs to build the best team practices and technologies together. 
Key Responsibilities:

• Deploy and support sensor configurations on a vehicle in the field, including firmware flashing, system testing, and issue debugging.
• Integrate a wide range of sensors, combining both third-party components and in-house hardware/firmware.
• Design and implement software systems for data collection and real-time demonstration use cases.

Zendar is developing autonomous driving solutions with high-resolution radar and AI built specifically for the RF spectrum. Through innovations in sensor technology, Zendar is making advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) safer, more affordable, and accessible to more drivers. 
Traditional radar has limits in resolution and object detection, often forcing automakers to rely on expensive sensors like lidar. Zendar overcomes these limits with AI that turns radar signals into detailed, meaningful insights—without the need for expensive hardware. This enables vehicles to identify objects, interpret complex scenes, and operate reliably even in conditions where cameras and lidar struggle, like darkness, fog, or glare.

Zendar is headquartered in Berkeley, CA and has engineering offices in Germany and France. 

• Ability to work from the office in Bekeley, CA, at least from Tuesday to Thursday
• 3+ years of experience supporting a live system
• 3+ years of full time work experience with software development
• Proficiency with Python and C++
• Experience working with hardware (e.g. sensors, Arduinos, robots)
• Great communication and teamwork skills, willingness to actively collaborate with the team in the US and Germany
• Eagerness to challenge yourself and learn new things
• A proactive approach to solving problems and willingness to take on new challenges as they arise
• Fluency in English

Bonus Points:

• Experience with Javascript
• Experience with automotive sensor integration (radar, lidar, camera, CANbus)
• Experience with working with Linux
• Prior experience of supporting data collection operation
• A track record of excelling in ambiguous or evolving roles in a fast-paced environment
