Job Summary
As a Systems Engineer you’ll be responsible for delivering both projects and operational support to the BDA global server platform of sites. This position will be responsible for the full lifecycle of BDA’s Linux and Windows server environment, including associated systems. You will coordinate with BDA support staff, third parties, and service providers to provide robust, secure, cost-effective, and stable servers and application hosting, both in on-prem and cloud data centers. This is a hands-on role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work as part of the Systems Engineering team to deliver operational support and tactical projects in a reliable and predicable manner.
• Ensure ongoing monitoring and backup of servers utilizing SolarWinds Orion, AWS Cloud Watch, and Rubrik.
• Coordinate provisioning of new on-premise and cloud-based servers and storage utilizing virtualization frameworks including VMWare ESX and Amazon CloudFormation.
• Produce documentation, create and maintain system diagrams representing future and current running environments.
• Coordinate the lifecycle of servers and storage including deployment, patching, upgrades, and retirement.
• Ensure adherence to ITIL processes such as Asset Management, Change Management, Incident Management, and Problem Management.
• Oversee the work of third parties who perform work on behalf of the Infrastructure Team to achieve our mission.
JOB SKILLS AND TRAITS
• Must possess excellent communication & problem solving skills.
• Ability to assess and prioritize requests, delegate and monitor, assuring successful and timely resolution.
• Must be able to understand and quickly diagnose problems associated with personal communications, peripheral equipment, networking, and desktop applications.
• Strong knowledge of user account management and privileges within a Microsoft Windows Domain.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, namely customer service, and a can-do positive attitude.
• Excellent, self-driven, detail orientation in a multi-tasking environment. Must be able to spend extended periods of time on the phone, handle multiple call and problems simultaneously, and follow-through to issue resolution.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree or High school diploma/equivalent or 5+ of relevant experience
• ITIL v3 Foundations or later certification is preferred
• Certifications, such as AWS Associate/Professional, RHCSA/RHCE, or similar are preferred
• 3+ years of relevant experience in Linux and Windows Systems Engineering on-premise and cloud-based solutions.
• Experience with virtualization tools (VMWare ESX), Backup/Recovery platforms (Rubrik), monitoring platforms (SolarWinds), Log Analysis (Sumologic or Splunk), and Storage Platforms (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NAS)
• Well versed in Active Directory (2019 or later) & LDAP, Domain Controllers, etc.
• Experience in RDBMS platforms (MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL, Postgres) as DBA is a nice to have
