BLITS 3.0 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This role will be to directly support the mission of the 66th Air Base Group (66 ABG) to secure information and information systems; to support mission success through effective and efficient service delivery; and to sustain required infrastructure and capabilities. As one part of the greater Air Force Information Network (AFIN) enterprise, the 66 ABG Communications and Information Division (66 ABG/SC) has responsibilities in two categories (1) direct actions in support of Hanscom Air Force Base (HAFB) and geographically separated units (GSUs); and (2) indirect actions to support the AFIN enterprise. Successful solutions for this requirement are expected to have strengths in four areas: integration, flexibility, AFIN knowledge, and technical expertise.
Job Responsibilities:
• Will lead a team of server engineers / administrators and will be responsible for planning/managing and implementing storage / backup / server solutions as per AF enterprise standards in support of 66 ABG/SC and their customers under Core Services.
• Lead server operations teams and server infrastructure projects with equal vigor, set individual and team level goals, follow-up on progress, foster teamwork and individual growth opportunities
•Deliver quality results in a fast paced, high expectation environment, working multiple tasks streams concurrently
• Use skills and experience as well as tools and technology to install, configure and troubleshoot server infrastructure and provide customer support for storage / backup / server services
• Bring hands-on experience in enterprise virtualized platforms / storage / backup / server solutions that will increase performance and flexibility to existing infrastructure in accordance with AF Server infrastructure policies and standards
• The position provides a wide range of services which ensure infrastructures are compliant with applicable directives, publications, and/or guidelines as governed by external DoD agencies in both unclassified and classified environments.
• Work as a part of operational server infrastructure team that supports the 66ABG/SC office (Base Communications Squadron) at Hanscom AFB, MA
• Day to day administration and management of a highly available SAN / Server / Backup infrastructure supporting over 6000+ users
• Participate in system maintenance / optimization / performance activities of the SAN / Server / Backup infrastructure
• Hands-on experience with administration of Microsoft 2016/2019 is a must
• Experience with Linux Operating Systems is desired
• Hands-on experience with hardware and virtualized platforms (Nutanix / VMWare etc.) is a must
• Hands-on experience in IBM Array / Tape library and Veeam backup system is a must
• Hands-on experience in installation / configuration / troubleshooting of Domain Controller / DNS / Active Directory is needed
• Design / Configure / Install / Implement / Monitor / Troubleshoot hardware and operating systems on server/storage/backup infrastructure
• Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
• Interfaces with vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded systems performance
• Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
• Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media are recycled and sent off site as necessary
• Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities, install and configure systems that supports server related applications
• Proactively identify, analyze, troubleshoot and resolve system problems, perform firmware upgrades, hardware and software installations as required
• Coordinate and closely work with other IT operation teams
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s in information technology, or equivalent plus 8+ years’ experience with strong background in Storage Area Network / Virtualization / Backup / Server infrastructure. An additional 4 years’ experience may substitute for the degree
• Microsoft Windows Server / VMware certification is preferred
• DoD 8570 Certification CompTIA Security + (obtained and active within last three years, or updated with current CEU’s within the last three years) required
• Working knowledge of SAN Switches/Print Service/DHCP
• Working knowledge of server infrastructure monitoring tools is desired
• Strong server debugging and troubleshooting skills required
• Must be disciplined in approach to operational excellence and execute detailed record keeping for adherence to locally established and required military processes and procedures.
• Work dynamically and effectively with people on projects (formal and informal) and conduct technical interchanges as required
• Knowledge in scripting tools such as PowerShell or Python desirable
• Supports emergency operations on an as needed basis 24/7 & weekend work maybe required as project or issues warrant
• Interact with customer and help resolve customer issues as required
• Must have excellent analytical and organizational skills
• Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to lift about 50+lbs required
• Critical thinking skills for problem identification and resolution
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
