Summary: Under the direction of the IT Director and documented IT Roles and Responsibilities, the Systems Administrator is responsible for the development, administration, and management of all AVCP servers and SaaS environments. This includes all physical and virtual servers and environments, Microsoft Server platforms such as Microsoft Active Directory, SaaS applications, on-premise network applications, and related peripheral devices. The Systems Administrator installs, configures, and maintains server hardware and software, creates user accounts, carries out backup and recovery functions, and monitors the performance of all servers and SaaS applications. Additionally, the Systems Administrator provides timely application support for all tiers in the IT Organizational Chart as needed. Incident and service request completion within the Incident Management software according to the IT Service Level Agreement (SLA) is required.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Administration and oversight of AVCP’s server environment and IT on-premise and cloud (SaaS and other) applications to ensure business needs are met.
  • Assist in the IT strategic planning process, ensuring all server and application-related initiatives are included in yearly and 3-5-year strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with the IT Director and team to provide technical direction on network topologies, server configurations, hardware/software deployments, firewall configurations, and other administrative tasks related to the staging and maintenance of company development, testing, and production servers and applications.  
  • Facilitate design sessions and architectural reviews, provide technical and procedural direction for the implementation of AVCP servers and applications, and enforce safety regulations and procedures for all server and application-related services.
  • Monitor server and on-premises and cloud application usage to ensure up-time goals are met according to the IT strategic plan.
  • Interface with vendors to obtain required equipment and software, ensuring proper licensing, audits, and budget controls.
  • Complete project and budgetary planning, including accurate estimates of time, funding requirements, completion dates, and resources required in accordance with the IT strategic yearly and 3-5-year plans.
  • Participate in the evaluation, selection, installation, and integration of all AVCP server components, cloud-based applications, and other related IT services.
  • Provide written reports and presentations on the status of server and IT application-related initiatives and projects.
  • Ensure Standard Operation Procedures and related Documentation for server components, server-related projects, and on-premises or cloud-based applications and related projects are created and/or up to date.
  • Design, implement, and maintain a consistent backup and disaster recovery plan.
  • Keep abreast of new trends and innovations.
  • Interface effectively with technical and nontechnical staff at all organizational levels.
  • Mentor and assist IT associates to foster a learning and growth environment.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • A valid Alaska Driver’s License and good driving record to qualify for AVCP Commercial Vehicle Insurance.  
  • The ability to travel in small planes is required for village-related travel. 
  • This position shall require the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. 
  • Must be self-starting, independent worker who is able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must have strong customer-service oriented skills including excellent communication and negotiations skills, to ensure proper communication is relayed to all stakeholders.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in Computer Science or related field, may substitute with the following experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in information systems hardware and software installation and maintenance, network services, systems support; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provide the capabilities to perform the described responsibilities.  
  • Experience Administering Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience in Windows Server and/or VMWare/VSphere and other Server Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of Security and Cloud Applications; Web & Email Filtering, Ivanti Platform Applications, Microsoft Patch Management, OKTA and other applicable software.
  • Application problem solving/analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools.
  • Professional attitude and work habits.
  • Yupik culture and bilingual fluency preferred.   
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A+, Network +, ITIL and MCSA/MCSE preferred. Must be willing to complete certifications or training as necessary.   

Skills Required

  • Associate degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in information systems hardware and software installation and maintenance
  • Experience administering Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Experience in Windows Server and/or VMware/VSphere
  • Knowledge of Security and Cloud Applications
  • A valid Alaska Driver's License
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds
  • Strong customer-service skills and excellent communication abilities
