Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
Anduril’s Land Systems team develops software for land-based crewed and robotic ground systems, leveraging software infrastructure built by other teams at Anduril. The team is responsible for taking crewed vehicles and uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) robots from paper sketches to operational systems. We are looking for engineers excited about fielding the next generation of software-defined ground combat vehicles.
In Anduril’s Land Systems team, we're advancing the future of land-based crewed and robotic ground systems. Our goal is to transform innovative designs into fully operational, software-defined combat vehicles, and we're searching for a System Safety Engineer to help us achieve the highest standards of safety. Your role is to own constructing an evidence-based safety case and a safety critical design that demonstrates our commitment to safety at every stage of our ground systems' lifecycle.
As a key member of our team, you will lead the creation and ongoing refinement of a model-based safety case, ensuring it's grounded in evidence and rigorous analysis. You'll work hand-in-hand with cross-functional teams to lead Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Trees, System Safety Assessments, Fault Management, and Hazard Management and Mitigation activities. Your work on safety will permeate design, testing, manufacturing, and production, guiding our systems to meet strict safety requirements while maintaining operational excellence.
Your comprehensive experience in product development, from conception through to customer handover and beyond, will be instrumental in establishing, validating, and continuously improving our safety practices. In this critical role, you will be the driving force in ensuring our ground combat vehicles are not only cutting edge but also meet the highest safety standards. Your work will push technological boundaries while supporting our nation's security, making a real difference for those who rely on our systems in the field.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead development of a model-based safety case for an uncrewed ground combat system with autonomous mobility functions in a small cross-functional team.
- Own the end-to-end safety analysis process evaluating a system from functional hazard analysis (FHA) to the lowest level of the fault tree analysis (FTA).
- Design a fault management system to establish fault tolerant behavior ensuring fault containment regions and system resilience.
- Generate safety requirements to ensure the system is designed to meet our safety case, and safety goals
- Conduct safety testing, simulations and fault modeling to understand system behavior and breaking points under heavy load, and engineers solutions to enable the system to degrade gracefully.
- Identify and document risks throughout the product lifecycle, coordinate risk mitigation with supporting stakeholders, and verify and validate risk or hazard mitigation measures.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 5 years industry experience as a safety engineer, systems engineer or equivalent engineering background.
- B.S. Degree in electrical engineering, computer science or a related technical discipline. Experience with electrical, electromechanical and software-intensive systems preferred.
- Experience with ISO 26262, MIL-STD-882, ARP4754, ARP4761, or a similar commercial standard.
- Experience designing safety critical systems and architecting fault management systems
- Experience conducting both deductive and inductive safety analyses, such as fault tree analysis (FTA); functional hazard assessments (FHA), failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA); probabilistic risk assessment (PRA); root cause assessment (RCA); Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP); or goal function tree, especially in a model-based environment.
- Experience developing testable system and software safety requirements
- U.S. Person Status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
