We believe aircraft should fly themselves.
The Role
The System Integration and Test Engineer will integrate software and hardware subsystems, execute tests, and ensure flight safety through verification plans and reports.
Summary Generated by Built In

We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.

As a System Integration & Test engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be responsible for bringing together flight software and hardware subsystems in bench, lab, and aircraft test environments. Your testing will cover the full lifecycle from new equipment bring-up and functional checkout in the lab to installation & acceptance testing on the aircraft. Your verification plans and reports will provide the basis for safety-of-flight decisions both internally and as part of independent government airworthiness processes. Finally, you will develop a comprehensive set of software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) CI/CD core tests that lock in quality and protect the system against the introduction of bugs and regression of functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze vehicle integration milestones to determine verification objectives

  • Plan, implement, and execute system and aircraft level V&V workflows

  • Define and execute test procedures, reduce data, evaluate pass/fail criteria, and document resulting issues

  • Define and execute vehicle checkout procedures for newly integrated systems and equipment

  • Compile & audit system readiness artifacts to determine comprehensive aircraft and flight readiness

Basic Success Criteria

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or related field

  • 5+ years of experience creating and executing tests for aerospace or autonomous systems

  • Professional experience developing and working with software- and hardware-in-the-loop test environments, including Python data reduction and visualization.

  • Professional experience with C/C++ development and integration for real-time and safety-critical environments, including version control, CI/CD, and software testing frameworks

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience with data discovery and data reduction frameworks

  • Knowledge of GNC theory and common aerospace control architectures

  • Professional experience implementing or integrating flight planning, guidance, estimation, or control algorithms

  • Professional experience with development assurance / design assurance standards (e.g., ARP-4754B, DO-178C or similar)

  • Private or commercial pilot license

System integration & test is where the rubber meets the road between the conceptual control system design and real-world flight operations. This is an exciting opportunity to realize key features of the Reliable Robotics automation system and integrate broadly with systems and subject matter experts across the sensor, effector, communications, hardware, and software stack.

This position requires access to information that is subject to U.S. export controls. An offer of employment will be contingent upon the applicant’s capacity to perform in compliance with U.S. export control laws.

All applicants are asked to provide documentation that legally establishes status as a U.S. person or non-U.S. person (and nationalities in the case of a non-U.S. person). Where the applicant is not a U.S. person, meaning not a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful permanent resident, (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or not otherwise permitted to access the export-controlled technology without U.S. government authorization, the Company reserves the right not to apply for an export license for such applicants whose access to export-controlled technology or software source code requires authorization and may decline to proceed with the application process and any offer of employment on that basis.
