What You Will Do:
At Independent Software, as a Systems Engineer Level 3, you will support mission-critical systems throughout the engineering lifecycle, from initial design and integration through testing, deployment, and sustainment.
You will work with a small, mission-focused team to administer Linux environments, support Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) software, troubleshoot system issues, and develop technical documentation and system drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support all phases of the systems engineering lifecycle, from concept through sustainment.
- Install, configure, administer, and maintain Linux systems, including Red Hat, CentOS, and Rocky Linux.
- Manage system authentication and authorization using FreeIPA and Active Directory.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot GOTS software applications.
- Develop, modify, and maintain Bash and Python scripts.
- Perform system testing, troubleshooting, integration, and operational support.
- Create and maintain system documentation, diagrams, and engineering drawing packages.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, users, and customers to resolve technical issues and support mission requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong Linux system administration experience, including installation, configuration, and management.
- Experience with Red Hat, CentOS, or Rocky Linux.
- Experience with FreeIPA and/or Active Directory authentication and authorization.
- Experience installing and maintaining GOTS software.
- Ability to create, read, and modify Bash and Python scripts.
- Strong system testing, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting systems engineering activities and technical documentation.
Desired Skills:
- Shared storage solutions and data flow technologies.
- Virtualization and containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Configuration management and automation using Ansible or Salt.
- Helm charts and YAML configuration files.
- DevOps practices and environments.
Education and Experience:
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- High School Diploma, GED, or Associate's Degree: Eighteen (18) years of relevant Systems Engineering experience.
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD: Fourteen (14) years of relevant Systems Engineering experience with a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role

Skills Required
- Experience with system hardware and software integration and system deployments
- Hands-on experience installing and supporting network and telecommunications equipment
- Experience installing and terminating CAT-5/6 and fiber-optic cabling
- Experience using optical power meters, OTDRs, and related fiber-optic test equipment
- Strong hardware, software, and network troubleshooting skills
- Experience installing, testing, maintaining, and decommissioning systems
- Experience performing quality assurance evaluations of system builds
- Experience repairing or replacing components in Dell servers
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with customers and technical teams
- Familiarity with Dell, Arista, and Raritan hardware
- Experience supporting system build and deployment activities in mission-focused environments
- Bachelor's degree in a qualified engineering field or related discipline plus six years of systems engineering experience, or equivalent education and experience pathway
- Active TS/SCI clearance with appropriate polygraph
