System Applications Engineer – Precision Studio

The Precision Studio team is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to define how our precision software tools should be improved.

The Precision Studio team creates customer facing tools to assist our customers with common electronic engineering problems in the precision space (under 50 MHz).  Examples of what we help with include driving precision ADCs, creating analog filters, designing transimpedance amplifiers, and more.  The suite of current tools can be viewed at www.analog.com/precisionstudio.

The job role includes:

  • Soliciting feedback on our tools and customers' design challenges by interacting with our sales team, customers, and business units.
  • Generating the engineering equations for the tool.
  • Creating circuit diagram schematics.
  • Defining web application user interfaces.
  • Defining the modeling needed.
  • Dividing the project into smaller tasks (stories) for the developers and modelers.
  • Testing the software once complete to verify and validate that implementation meets your vision.
  • Marketing our tools by creating application notes, visiting customers, and providing training to our sales team.
  • Some programming may be required, but the bulk of the coding will be done by a team of software developers and modelers with whom you will collaborate closely.

Your attributes:

  • You like analog electronics.  You want to further your skills in system level (as opposed to transistor level) analog design.
  • Bad software bothers you.  You will go the extra mile to make sure our customers have a great experience.  You want to learn more about the process of making high quality software.
  • You enjoy gathering knowledge from a wide variety of sources and synthesizing it into a coherent whole.
  • You are a “Get it done” person.  You can drive projects forward self-sufficiently and overcome obstacles.

Required experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have worked in electronic product design capacity for 5+ years.  Alternatively, you have several years’ experience working in a technical, customer-facing role (FAE, Product Apps, etc.) in an analog semiconductor company.
  • You have built boards containing analog board circuitry involving circuit design, layout, debug, and delivery to customer.
  • You have done at least some software development.  You do not need much experience, but you should have done enough that you’d feel comfortable translating engineering equations into code and relating to those who develop software full-time.  Programming language does not matter.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
