The future is Supersonic.
The Role
The Supplier Development Engineer works hands-on with suppliers to resolve manufacturing issues and improve production processes for aerospace components.
Summary Generated by Built In

Boom Supersonic is building the Overture supersonic airliner and the Superpower natural gas turbine — machines that require some of the most demanding manufacturing in modern industry.

We can’t do that alone.

Our success depends on a network of world-class suppliers producing castings, forgings, and precision machined components to an extremely high bar.

Your job is to help make that happen.

Not a traditional supplier role

As a Supplier Development Engineer, you won’t manage suppliers from a spreadsheet. You’ll be in their shops—working with their engineers, machinists, and operators to solve real manufacturing problems.

You’ll act as the technical bridge between Boom and our suppliers, helping them produce critical hardware like inconel castings, forgings, and precision machined engine components.

You’ll work closely with engineering, supply chain, and suppliers to get parts built and delivered reliably. You’ll travel to suppliers, work through production issues at the source, and help build the processes and relationships required to deliver hardware that is ready to build when it arrives at Boom.

The mission

Boom is building the supply chain required to produce complex aerospace hardware—castings, forgings, precision machined parts, and assemblies made from demanding materials like Inconel 718.

Those parts don’t build themselves. They come from suppliers across the country, and many of them require hands-on technical partnership to get the process stable and the hardware flowing.

You will:

  • Work directly with suppliers producing castings, forgings, machined parts, and assemblies to ensure they can consistently meet Boom’s technical and delivery requirements.
  • Travel to supplier facilities to diagnose manufacturing problems, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead technical problem solving between suppliers and Boom teams across engineering, quality, and supply chain.
  • Improve supplier production processes—from tooling and manufacturing flow to inspection and process control.
  • Work alongside supplier engineers and operators to strengthen manufacturing capability and problem-solving practices.
  • Build strong relationships with key suppliers while maintaining a high bar for performance.

This role involves significant supplier engagement. Expect to travel around 25% of the time, often on short notice when issues arise.

This job is demanding and rewarding

The margin for error is small. The hardware we build has to work the first time.

You’ll walk into machine shops, foundries, and fabrication facilities where real problems are happening—missed deliveries, unstable processes, dimensional escapes, or production bottlenecks.

Your job is to figure out what’s actually going wrong, bring the right people together, and help the supplier fix the problem for good.

This role requires strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to lead through influence rather than authority.

If you like solving real manufacturing problems and working closely with suppliers to improve how parts get built, you’ll do well here.

Why Boom

Boom is building one of the most ambitious industrial programs of this century. The work is hard, the pace is fast, and the expectations are high.

In return, you’ll get real ownership, the chance to work with exceptional teammates, and the opportunity to help build a supply chain capable of powering the future of supersonic flight and next-generation energy systems.
