  Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of School Age Programs, the Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning, communication, and daily operations of a YMCA Summer Day Camp programs held within local schools. This position assists in delivering high-quality camp experiences that drive enrollment, participation, and retention while providing outstanding customer service to campers and families. The Coordinator helps ensure their assigned site operates safely, effectively, and in alignment with the YMCA’s mission and standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and clear expectations for daily Summer Day Camp activities.
  • Plan and implement engaging daily activities that meet the needs and interests of participants and promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Support enrollment and retention efforts by delivering high-quality programming and fostering positive relationships with families and staff.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment by adhering to mandated staff-to-child ratios and YMCA safety standards.
  • Collect and process participant payments accurately and in a timely manner. Complete required documentation within established deadlines.
  • Ensure proper daily sign-in and sign-out procedures are followed in accordance with YMCA policy.
  • Lead staff meetings to ensure consistent communication and attend all required YMCA trainings and meetings.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, and concerns in accordance with YMCA risk management procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
  • Maintain current certifications and remain knowledgeable of all emergency procedures.
  • Prepare weekly schedules and calendars; support special events and fundraising initiatives as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain program supplies, equipment, and inventory.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with at least three years of driving experience; driving record must meet YMCA standards.
  • Be willing and able to operate a 14-passenger vehicle in accordance with YMCA policy
  • Maintain bi-weekly payroll within approved budget guidelines.
  • All other duties assigned by Management.

 

 

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in formal child care curriculum and programming, school age experience.
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Child Care certification a plus.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required

 

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms.
  • May be required to sit, stand or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
  • Must exhibit patience and understanding.
  • Must be able to receive and follow detailed instructions.
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and children’s well-being.
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment.
  • Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure in an educational environment.
  • May be required to work outdoors for extended periods of time.
  • May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures.

Skills Required
