- Assist in the development of AC and DC power system design documents, including:
- Single-line diagrams, schematics, substation layout, conduit routing, cable schedules, and wiring drawings.
- Help prepare engineering calculations and studies, such as load flow, short-circuit, protective relay coordination, arc-flash analysis, and step-and-touch potential assessments.
- Support the creation of engineering specifications, reports, and installation/testing instructions.
- Contribute to the preparation of cost estimates and assist in technical proposal development.
- Participate in field visits, including inspections and data collection in live high-voltage substations and active railroad environments (under supervision and in compliance with safety regulations).
- Support CAD drawing development using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
- Gain experience with commercial engineering software tools such as ETAP, SKM, or MathCAD for modeling and simulations.
- Assist with project documentation, file management, and coordination with internal teams and external clients.
- Participate in design review meetings, testing observations, and client interactions alongside senior staff.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline at an ABET-accredited university.
- Strong interest in traction power, electrical distribution systems, or transportation infrastructure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Basic familiarity with AutoCAD or MicroStation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow OSHA and rail safety protocols (training will be provided).
- Coursework or project experience in power systems, circuit analysis, or railway engineering.
- Exposure to engineering modeling tools like ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or MathCAD.
- Interest in rail electrification, utility systems, or public transportation projects.
- Experience with technical documentation or engineering reports.
