Summer 2025 - Structural Engineering Intern

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Structural Engineering Intern in Water Practice to join our Structural team. This internship offers an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate-level candidates to work alongside our experienced team, learn, and contribute to meaningful projects. This hybrid position requires at least 3 days a week in the office. Preference will be given to those who can participate in the internship for at least 3 months and can work full-time. Responsibilities:

• Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
• Develop structural engineering plans, design, and layout.
• Provide drawings and/or sketches for designs to be incorporated in construction drawings by drafters.
• Research design options.
• Prepare load combination drawings and tables for structure manufacturers.
• Review shop drawings.
• Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering design documents.
• Attend and participate in project meetings.
• Perform field activities such as observation of construction progress and existing field conditions.
• Effectively communicate project progress and issues to the design team and maintain communication with the team members throughout the course of the project.
• Capable of managing and performing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Calculate structure heights and weights, concrete volumes, equipment fit-up, or other basic tasks.
• Support cost estimating with providing take-offs and getting quotes.

Required:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering focused on structural engineering from an ABET-accredited university or NCEES equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Taken and passed reinforced concrete and/or steel design course.
• Familiarity with production tools, or modeling and design software.

Compensation Range:

$44,961.00 - $59,948.00
