While the school is clearly the centerpiece of its mission, Shelton is more than a school. It encompasses three other major components, all open to the communitya speech and language therapy program, an evaluation center, and a teacher-training program. Shelton is actively involved with research and collaborates with major medical institutions in the Dallas area, including Childrens Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center. The Shelton School is a co-educational, non-sectarian school that serves approximately 900 students with learning differences in grades EC to 12. The Shelton School is accredited by Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS).
Position Overview
This is an on-call position where the employee is contacted on an as-needed basis to provide coverage when the school nurse is out of the office. Responsible for appraising the health needs of the students and faculty by providing a safe and healthy environment and promoting good health practices.
General Responsibilities
- Availability and attendance are essential to the successful performance of this job based on the schedule of availability provided by the employee. Employee is expected to be available on the days and times stated by the employee and reflected on the sub list.
- Assess and treat students. Document findings and treatment in computer in medical section of school program that is IIPAA compliant. Notify parents as indicated.
- Administer first aid for emergencies with appropriate follow-up.
- Check in and log all medications for the students. Ensure that the appropriate authorizations are complete. Maintain security of medications.
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with colleagues, students and parents.
- Comply with and assist in upholding state and school policies.
- Keep clinic clean.
- Delegate to assistant in the care and tasks to maintain smooth flow in the clinic.
- Perform any other duties requested.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program.
- Valid registered nurse license to practice professionally in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Current CPR Health Care Provider.
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience preferred.
- Must have a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
