Position SummarySubstitute Teachers at Denver Christian School support student learning and maintain continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Substitute Teachers carry out lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher and uphold the school’s commitment to academic excellence within the context of a biblical worldview. They partner with school leadership to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for all students.

Academic SupportSubstitute Teachers facilitate learning by clearly delivering lesson plans, assisting students as needed, and maintaining instructional momentum. While substitutes are not responsible for long-term planning or assessment, they are expected to promote academic engagement and effort during their assignment.
Classroom ManagementSubstitute Teachers maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment. They manage student behavior using school-established expectations and discipline practices, seek support from administration when needed, and treat students with consistency, fairness, and respect.
Professional ConductSubstitute Teachers work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff, communicate clearly about classroom activities and student needs, and represent the school professionally at all times.
Professional Responsibilities
Substitute Teachers are expected to:
- Follow lesson plans, classroom procedures, and schedules provided by the regular teacher
- Maintain a classroom environment that supports student learning, safety, and respect
- Reinforce school rules, expectations, and biblical values
- Provide feedback to the regular teacher regarding lesson completion, student behavior, and any concerns
- Supervise students during instructional time and assigned duties
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school matters
- Comply with all policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and Substitute Teacher guidelines
- Hold required substitute or teaching credentials as determined by the State of Colorado and Denver Christian School
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification (preferred or required as determined by the school)
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee during the assignment
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in education or a related field preferred

Prior experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or ministry setting preferred

Skills Required
